Rilek 1 corner with UrbanKarma...
A beautiful Saturday afternoon is the setting for ethno metallic arsonist URBANKARMA ‘RILEK ONE CORNER’ session, showcasing their new single – Cradle of Turmoil, giving a sense of fresh air approach by these veterans. Held at Fourtones
In a Rock context, a few artistes like John Lennon & Creed’s Scott Stapp wrote songs with lyrics in dedication of a newborn child. Metal? Max did record his unborn son’s heartbeat into a song and the most prevalent is probably Skinlab’s Noah, Urbankarma’s new single is one of those that pushed the envelope further. One of the boldest & clever steps in enlarging the lyrical scope of metal.
Cradle of Turmoil, is a thrashy song laced with a melodic chorus, written by guitarist/vocalist and founder of Urbankarma, Burhanudin Buang. The song depicts a child born in a world of turmoil is written in dedication to Burhan’s son, Andreas Khairiel, who was born on October 26th 2004. The idea to write a song for his son came up about two months before Andreas was born.
"When I aproach a child, he/she inspires in me two sentiments: tenderness for what he/she is, and respect for what he ay become." - Louis Pasteur. A quote that perhaps sums up the song.
Burhan said “The move to write a rather personal song about a newborn child is in line with Urbankarma’s policy of doing things differently. Cradle of Turmoil is different because it has a blatantly positive and uplifting lyrical content, something that goes against the grain of conventional metal lyrics.” The interesting part is the band has decided that the song is not for radio. The breaking away from convention also extends to the fact that for the first time the band will not release the song on CD.
The track was recorded at TNT Studio, between April and September 2005. Recorded and mixed by KK Wong aka Ah Boy, while mastering was done by Djasman Hussain of Djasmaniac Productions. The song also features guest vocals by Burhan’s wife, Nurashikin Mohamed Sharif. The song was initially for a release on Andreas’ first birthday but work and other commitment delayed the production process. Urbankarma plans to release this single via online sometimes in April 2006.
Apart from rocking the place, get up close with the media and of course answer questions, they have an important announcement. 2006 is the year where they will say goodbye. The band will hopefully stage a farewell show in late December this year.
One of the few bands that challenge the normal conventions and not afraid in expressing their thoughts into words, Love 'em or hate 'em the music scene will indeed be losing a bunch of true rock soldiers.
