Indie, sch-indie... who cares lah.
To me, metal bands like Rudra, Impiety are all indie bands as well.
Indie = Independent
which usually in the broader scale of things, cannot tan chiak which therefore means most of the time, the band members have day jobs and fund the project with their own cash.
But the term 'indie' is very bastard-ised lah.
Anyway, B-Quartet used to do what bro emphibian bro says "Angry funk". I have no idea what that means. Usually, I know funk has something to do with a sex machine... :wink: But they've evolved into something really different now, incorporating samples and loops into their sets and toning down on the shredding guitar solos. So now, they is no more progressive rock? Maybe, indie is a loose term which can be used to describe them...
Zero Sequence is still mainly a prog-rock band. They throw in a couple of classic rock covers here and there.
We do have Documentary In Amber as well which does post-rock which is not exactly your 1 million-notes-per-minute band. They do bombastic 10 minute epic soundscapes and all. Maybe, this one is quite indie?
AEnimic, you might be interested to know that your favourite local post-metal band is coming onboard as well. The soundtrack which they are recording is currently being mastered, if I'm not wrong...
We are looking into doing local distro for some of our Malaysian friends as well. And some of them are pretty heavy as well.
Some friends have asked us: "What's our label aesthetic?"
Fu ck, if we'd know... Look at all the indie labels out there: Bella Union, 4AD, Roadrunner (are they publicly listed yet? Hmmm...), etc. Despite the genres, most of them have certain ways of packaging and marketing their acts from the A&R selection of the acts to the distribution channels of the products. Check out their websites. Quite the nice. Unlike ours. Ahem.
The Internet has practically made the record labels obslete... You can promote yourself and sell your own music online without the help of a record company these days.
The majors are hardly signing acts anymore. Unless you are a single artist. Easier to manage mah. Which is interestingly what some govt. agencies in Singapore are pushing these days.
