Singapore Drumfest 2008 and all build up events

.. Good Job Brandon!!!

thanks static, yes i am EXTREMELY honored to be on the same bill as Virgil Donati... its still a blur though... ive watched and heard Virgil Donati since the early 90s.. with his band loose change, southern Sons..etc... all his instructional videos..even form the 90s.. i archived it all into a few DVDs.. even his performance with Southern sons.. that televised on Australian T.V. in the 90s.

He does inspire me to be one thing..to be as original as possible...

as me adding my style of metal into the chinese pop/rock songs... i try to create a certain vibe from it, instead of just playing safe, i opt to ventrue into blending a genre of music into another, dont know how receptive thats gona be in the near future, im looking forward to create that vibe to more of the next few AMP's originals.. we'll see how that goes.

Having said that.. you cant please everyone... but the most important thing is to please yourself, play *drums* hard.. and make sure you're putting in 110%, you cant go wrong that way i guess.

with regards to my MAPEX kit... they are a Wonderful set of Drums.. Wonderful comapny, Wonderful people... they cater to their artist's needs like no other, having said that as well, i'll let the the sound of MAPEX drums that you hear to do the talking.

thanx everyone for coming down to Singapore Drum Fest 08... see you guys around.. and remember SINGAPORE DRUM FESTIVAL 09, the next guy thats gona represent singapore is gona kick major ass ..im sure!! Be there!!

Tan Boon is a giving all drummers and musicians alike a very good opportunity every year to experience Drumming at its highest level for a good price! support Singapore Drum Fest 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15............. many more to come

Saw your video with Virgil Donati. Totally caught Donati off guard! Hilarious man lol.

It was great and inspiring to see you on stage giving the masterclass. Maybe one day, we'll see you in Modern Drummer too! ;)

Singapore Drumfest is really great this year. With the likes of Teddy Campbell and Virgil Donati ALSO our dear Brandon Khoo in the line up. Its been very inspiring to hear them play and talk about each and one's musical journey to who they are today. Teddy's phrasing and grooviness to the drum set is amazing, oh, his chops too. Not forgetting Virgil's extreme single strokes around the kit, haha!

One thing I don't understand is that the turn out this year I think wasn't that great. People always talk about drum festivals overseas, about their favourite drum heroes and yada yada. I hear a lot of people wants to be this and that drummer. But when the festival is just right on our door step, we're not responding to it. Its good that people are practicing, but its really another thing to expose yourself to great music and playing. Its time to break out of your shell from your favourite 'genres' of music. People talk about how many things they have done in the scene but I don't see them supporting a great festival. Please don't tell me "I'm a metal OR jazz guy, there's not really a metal OR jazz guy this year, so I'm not going". End of the day, you are just losing out. I play blast beats and I study jazz music/drumming with one of the best jazz drummers around in Singapore (Eddie layman). Com'on man, Teddy campbell learns 1000 song in 2 weeks! Beat that!

Tan Boon is a great guy with a great heart for the music community in Singapore. Not just because I knows him personally, because its the truth. The platform is already there and who knows? The next drummer who represent in Singapore Drumfest might be YOU! So if you want people to support you, start supporting others!

The line up this year is really great. We had 1st Asian to win Modern Drummer undiscovered drummer contest winner Arthur Kam, Mr Q the drummer for Jay Chou, Teddy, Virgil, Brandon and more! We even had the ROCKSTAR: INXS and American Idol band here. Whats more?

End of the day, I hope more people could just open up to more kinds of music. If its not your kind of music, don't just walk away, start appreciating it. Don't tell me you have already made it because the last time I checked we are all still learning. Now you know about Singapore Drumfest, save up the money for next year!! Its definitely not as much as SINGFEST! Haha!

*PS : kudos to Brandon for becoming my drum techie... HAHAHA!!
