after so long reading through this forum, i admit i've been quite overwhelmed by the emphasis of vocal techniques and trainings by everyone.. :S i'm left feeling quite out of place.
so.. uh, for once, i'm humbly putting up an old recording; it's a "cover" of andrew lloyd webber's "pie jesu", and i'd like to see if anyone can spot all the wrong techniques or any technique i'm using so that i could yknow.. know where i'm messing my voice up. i never quite had vocal training, i read books a lot and listened to vocals alot and.. applied.. like that lah.
so far the worst critic is, of course, me; i spotted about 3-7 bits of it that i thought sucked, mainly pitching and note preperations. and that little blast of sound over at the high note. and that unstable "vibrato" holding notes. and airy notes. hell i wasn't even using my head voice, mainly because i'm scared of it (don't ask).
i have to add that i recorded that when i just woke up (literally), on my external laptop mic (you can hear my fan), so the whole thing's kinda... anyhow done in terms of timing and stuff. i also added a harmony and an echo filter, to muddle the general sound out and make it sound nicer (cos i meant for it to be some experimental atmospheric song), but otherwise my voice is out there and raw... albeit really sleepy-sounding..
so... yknow. go ahead and tell me.. something.. :X
i'm quite shy so be easy on it k
... also, let me know what sorta training i'm gonna face -if- i intend to take up classical vocal training with a voice like that... are they gonna make me work on my powerhouse or what? cos if they are then i gotta stop smoking. :X
--- edit: see lah talk so much forgot to post the song
