hi softies, give me advice on which pickup should i put in the bridge position in my epi les paul ultra.currently the neck is APH-1n.so im deciding whether to buy a '59 or a APH-1b to go into the bridge position.im using this les paul ultra mainly for playing guns and roses stuff

hey softies,do give me advice too on who i can go to when installing pickups.i'll be buying it from gain10,and i dont know how to install.whats the diff between '59 and aph-1b,in terms of tone

Well why don't you look at the seymour duncan tonechart
http://www.seymourduncan.com/comparetones

From there,

59 bridge is 8.13k dc resistance, eq 6/3/8 (bass/mids/treble)
alnico II pro bridge is 7.85k dc resistance, 7/4/8

Even though both pups are moderate ouput, 59 is a bit hotter than the alnico, eq-wise alnico has more bass and mids. Keep in view the wood used for your guitar. Mahogany inherently has more bass and lower mids.

Manufacturer websites are a great deal of help when deciding on purchases, IMO it would do you good to go do some research before buying.

Haven't tried a 59, but from my experience of the Alnico Pro 2 bridge, it can close to the Slash tone that you are looking for.

Note that GNR cds go through a lot of mixing (esp. for the guitars), it would be wiser to look up live videos of Slash on youtube and take a listen what the Alnico Pro 2 sounds like on the bridge.

The good thing of the Alnico Pro 2 bridge is that it is very versatile, and does not sound as smooth as the neck version, which is way too smooth. Sounds chimey when clean, full and punchy at high gain. Not exactly for chugga metal though, might be a little muddy at times.

Just my 2 cents..

Duncan's 59 is a polite pickup when you drive it. yes, it'll give you some commanding tones but things remain rather polished in the upper freq.

Alnico II Pro is a more robust pickup for drive implementations, it's more biting but has that vintage appeal which many players like. i have this in my SG neck position...
