Salsa Style Drumming

First of all, salsa is not a style of music but a style of dance. Generally, any up-tempo latin groove can be played. I would listen to the bassist for foot pattern (samba, baion or songo) and listen out to melody to decide on my clave. Most of the time I would play a cascara right hand pattern on a bell. Salsa is pretty young and hip....so there aren't really any hard and fast rules....
