rusty strings

any useful method to avoid my guitar strings from rusting? the strings would start to rust as soon as i buy them, like after a week or so, i would place my guitar on the guitar stand. is this bad, should i put it in the guitar bag instead? which one is better to avoid rusting?

I used to leave my guitar on the stand too and later on I decide to put it in a bag after playing....and found that the strings don rust as fast....So puttin in a bag does help....Another thing is to wipe the strings with a cloth to remove the sweat and oils from ur hands.... 8)

hmm i see. ok i'll do that. what abt applying oil on the strings? is there a special oil for guitar strings?

yah wipe the strings everytime you have played..i think theres some stuff out in the market that will prevent strings from rusting so fast..dunno what is that call..correct me if im wrong..you could also try coated strings..which will last longer..but more exp though..DR is one of the brand that has coated strings..can ask subversion for comments since he uses them :)

i dont do anything.. i just leave it on my stand.. it doesnt rust.. and i only change when it feels dead..

wa dhalif ur strings never rust? 8O i think theres some magical substance in ur fingers that enable you to play well and prevent your strings from rusting

for me i wipe my strings everytime i finish playing and keep my guitar in the case... my strings have lasted me for about 1 month, and have not started rusting yet. :D

just wipe the strings with a cloth(the ones u use to wipe cars and motorcycles) after playing....that's what i do...

hey, i wiped the strings, but then there are this tiny cloth remnants or something, like tiny remains of the cloth that would coil around the strings, especially the 1st and 2nd string. its like the tread coils around the string and its irritating to have to remove every single one of them. so i end up pushing them all to the end, like near the bridge, and leaving them there. will it affect my guitar?

well, maybe it doenst affect the guitar but it may affect the way your strings sustain the sounds.
try using some other cloth or and old soft cotton tee instead

crazy...autosol and brasso..ever thought what would happen when the substance comes into contact with yr fretboard?

Eh dhalif want day could we met up...just wipe your hands on my strings 8) Dhalif coatings.

i do have the same problem too. Guess, used cotton T-Shirt is much better to wipe your strings. [/code]
