ROCK ON SINGAPORE II

I was thinking of putting ROS-2 at Fort Canning next year, and do it into a ticketed gig...in line with philosophy of musician and gig valuation.

I invite valuable contribution of all kinds...

I know this will generate a lot of bands writing in wanting a gig slot, but let me apologise in advance to those who may not get a slot ultimately, mainly because it is absolutely difficult for the band selection committee (to be set up) to decide who to line up as against the limitation of available slots, and also genre mix.

SHOOT... :smt068

ROS rocked! ROS 2 would probably be greater! That sounds so cool man.. Roughly when will it be held?

Ticketing sounds alright, as long as the price ain't too steep..

Fort Canning?! wow..
hmm..location wise, is it easily accessible as opposed to Orchard Green?
I'm not that familiar with the area lah but from the usual location that has been used before (the area in front of the white building)..it's quite a walk rite? but i think anybody would mind lah..it's like one of the biggest gigs of the year. :D

But if you're aiming for a larger crowd than last year's ROS then Fort Canning is damn happening lah.hehe. spacious!!

yah...slipknot stay in ang mo kio rite.
kidding lah...i thought slipknot's a concert not a gig. k nvm.

talkin bout local gigs lah bro.hehe.

Hahaha yeah I know. Just messing around. But if Slipknot did stayed in Ang Mo Kio, I'll go take 851 and go meet them now.

Isn't 'gig' equivalent to 'concert'? Lol. Anyway, ROS sure was the bestest gig I've ever been to. Great band line-ups and great atmosphere!

I don't mind ticketing! Reminds me of Hopejam`05. Haha.

I guess the grass is greener at Orchard Green than Fort Canning Green, that's why they put those colourful cowss just before our last gig. The the grass will be gone soon...pity the cows...mooo.

Jokes aside, Fort Canning better for ticketed event. Tickets... I promise no more than $10. Could very much be less. And maybe lucky draw also.

A bit too early to talk about dates.

Fort Canning is a great venue, as past issues of noise complains should not apply there. But then, we never know.

Fort Canning as in Fort Canning Green?? That's a very big venue, could be pretty costly to do. Sometime the staging is there, quite elaborate. Other time it's just a bare platform. Like quite dependent on certain musical season is it?

There were also small time gigs done there before, in the function room/s. The Lioncity hardcore guys are familiar to that I think.

Whenever there is ticketing involved, it's only fair to at least give the audience entertainment of a certain quality. So the question is newcomer bands out of the loop for this event??

I've seen some outstanding bands who played at my Singapore Expo gigs. Depending on the final line up by the committee, but they will be among the list to choose from.

Yeah...cool. So it will be a fair game for all. Hope that the bands will put up an outstanding show to bring in the crowd.

Remember guys, not only must your music be good, you must also know how to work the audience and garner a following.

I think the following could be a some pointers for our budding bands:

1) Music must be good, this is a base requirement.

2) Stage antics, those which get positive responses from audience

3) Body action must be as colorful as your music, few is interested in seeing a WOODEN LOG shredding like malmsteen. Your guitar fly, you fly too, understand?

4) Eye candy. Many bands neglect this part. Guys must ooze charisma, and ladies dress to kill. This will endear your fans to remember you more intensely and deeply.

5) Crowd interaction, this can be learnt too, not say if you don't have it does not matter. This field is very neglected too. Watch more talkshows like Jay Leno.... stuff like that.

As a performer you must 'Sell Yourself'. It's impritive for your own sucess, not only just hard work and good technical skills. Anyone else have more to add, feel free to do so. The above is just my own opinion. Cheers

hehe. i suppose it depends on the type of band and genre rite?

i saw that the Observatory didn't do 2,3,4,5. but they're still so damn awesome when i watched them live at ROS 1.

if you're a band catering to the mainstream market though, you probably need 2,3,4,5... and maybe 6: a charismatic member in the band which brings in the audience. Some people will cringe at that thought, but that's very common in a lot of successful bands. It's something that most players do not wish to do if they want to lay back, but ultimately that band will be stuck if there's no one member who can bring the audience "alive".

Ideally, a band should have attributes of good audience connetivity as well as substance. In the Chinese sector, the classify one as "Shi Lit Pai - Substance group" and "Ou Siang Pai - Idol group" as the other.
