Reviews on The Music Lab?

So i a friend of mine enrolled in the music lab, bass lessons. I heard some pretty good reviews for drums and bass there like good instructors and atmosphere and stuff. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with the guitar lessons there. And price range etc. :D I heard its quite costly.

Price range is the same across instruments. For indiv lessons, $140 per month for non-chief instructors (if you sign up for 24lesson package, and $200 per month for chief instructors. 50mins per lesson. I'm taking drum lessons there and I have to say its pretty good. Guitar I'm not too sure but you can look for Fugene over there, I heard he's good.

i have no say about the guitar teachers there but one thing for sure, if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

no use spending less and get some sub standard guy teaching you. looking for the good players out there to teach you

trust me, it's worth it

In case anyone is still deciding whether or not to take lessons there, I took lessons for about a year last year but decided to leave after they repeatedly failed to inform me that my lesson had been cancelled. I would arrive at the centre with my instrument and everything only to be informed that my instructor would not be coming in. This happened a total of 3 times. I finally left because they let it happen twice in a single week, and one of the front desk admins (they kept changing) was particularly insincere and offered no apology which just made things worse. I've been trying to claim back the fees for my last lesson which was not carried out by no fault of mine, but they (I think another front desk admin handling the email account who did not leave a name, very professional indeed) have been unhelpful so far - they provided an insincere and generic reply saying that no records have been kept.

If it is indeed true that no records have been kept of both my activities and the instructor's activities at the centre, this is a sign that the business is falling down from within. Such lax attitudes towards record-keeping can only mean trouble for the consumer. If, on the other hand, they have been keeping records but have lied to avoid providing a refund (and I have reason to suspect that this is true because I signed off after every lesson without fail), then this is plain dishonesty. The money itself is a small sum and I would have let it go if they had given a sincere and detailed explanation and apology. Unfortunately, they have been uncooperative and consistent in ignoring my requests. I can only conclude that they have no regard for their customers and would strongly discourage any one from signing up.

Hmm, I just joined as admin this year, not much of such things happening. Which admin did you particularly have a bad experience with? How does he/she look like?

It was a young skinny Malay guy. September 2012, Monday evening I think. I had an individual lesson so I made my way down from work with my instrument and then when I got there I asked if my instructor was there yet and he happily and proudly said no, because my instructor cancelled all lessons for the day. It was 7 pm. He had the whole day to let me know, but I never heard a word. No sms no missed calls, and no apology even. This was the second time it happened.

I arranged to have another lesson later the same week but then my instructor called in sick. The centre didn't inform me again. This time it was a different guy and he really did sound sorry but because it was already the third time I was so angry I walked straight out without another word. Poor guy. I should have asked for a refund back then already

When you say, "not much of such things happening" do you mean that I am not the first person to have experienced problems with cancelled lessons, or do you mean that I am not the first person to have been denied a refund? They will not even let me know if I paid a deposit.

Oh then I'm sure who it might be. But sounds bad man. The admins now are all responsible enough to inform both students and instructors either through call or sms if either party needs to make changes. Hmm when I say not much of such things happening, means I have never experienced it both as a student and as an admin. I tend to phrase my words more on the safe side haha. Refund will be decided by the manager, so the admins will have to consult the manager regarding individual issues to see if a refund can be issued. Hmm why would they not let you know if you paid a deposit? By right, all students (under last year's system) are supposed to pay a deposit before signing up. So you probably will have paid a deposit.

The new payment scheme now is different though, there won't be deposit but instead, student pay per term (every 12 lessons). So I guess the deposit problem won't be occuring again!
