Review : Zoom R16 + Wharfedale KMD-7

Zoom R16 has served me real well ever since I got it a year ago no problems, glitches and real surprised for its performance on as a USB audio interface (Bus Powered), a few plus points with this baby here is the 2 onboard mics, the "Hi-Z" input , the onboard Zoom amp simulations, portability (it's very light + runs on batteries too!) , and able to wire up another R16 to record 16 channels in stand alone mode. I use it for :
- jamming preproduction recordings

- All my location drum recordings at various bedrooms/jamming studios/etc for my works.

Wharfedale KMD-7 is a 7 drum mic kit that comes with a nice hardcase, built like a tank, compact, and the great part about it in my opinion is the mic mounts and the great price tag of $300SGD (currently at citymusic year end sale)! I truly wished they had these around when I first started cos even copy mics used to cost an average of $70 onwards and excluding the costly mic mounts.

Another review here ..

so why Wharfedale KMD-7 together with Zoom R16? Because Zoom R16 being the more cost effective audio interface/recorder + the 7 drum mic cheapest drum mics I've come across, I had to test it and see how it works together best bang for buck. Pair them off together and getting the XLR cables , a couple of mic stands, headphone amps+headphones/PC speakers etc. and you get a full recording function at under $1K - $1.2K which would be ideal for bands who have their own room studio if every member chips in.

Apart from saying "google for other people's reviews" cos i'm not much of a writer. but I must link this champion here for he's put the R16 to the detailed test. @ http://jamon.name/Hardware/Zoom+R16

Nice review. I picked up the R16 recently because of all the good feedback from you. The R16 has served me well at three live recordings.

Just wondering if you've tried daisy chaining two of them for 16channel inputs?

any latency issues between the two units?

I'm thinking of getting another one.

I'm not using any laptop or pc to interface during my recordings.

Thanks man

Thanks for the compliments man,According to jamon's tests and the manual there will be some kinda latency eventually.you might wanna try demo the r16 at CityMusic with yours using an iPhone > 1/8stereo to RCA to 1/4 adapter do the similar test I did

When I was doing this review I also recorded the same song properly and The Inimical Alternative has just finished all of their recording and it's in final mixing stages. will update soon! =)

Personally, I think I would like the snare to cut through the mix. Of cos, your client do the decision.
