Hello. very noob question but does any know where i can find a video on the net that can teach me how to restring properly? I Don't know how to coil.

ARGGG I JUST BOUGHT MY HIGH E STRING YESTERDAY....my brother help me restring..i found it messy so i detuned it and it snapped again..this time at the nut.

Something must be wrong either with your guitar or the way you are stringing and tuning the string.

Firstly, use a tuner. It's more accurate. In my personal experience, I always tune the high E very slowly. When you use the tuner, you can see the string slowly getting into tune. That way you can know how much force to be applied to the tuning keys.

When stringing, coil around the tuning head neatly and avoid overlapping the coils. Generally, you don't start stringing from the beginning of the string. Pull in about 100mm or 6" or so before you start stringing and cut away the excess after you're have tuned the string. Look at how guitars are strung when you visit a music shop and remember how they look like. This will give you an idea of how it should be.

hey. i recommend tt u get locking tuners. those kind which can lock on to ur strings so u can just cut them of near de tuner thus there wont be de need for de strings making rounds about de peg.

As a guitarist, one must learn to change strings because it's part and parcel of the whole experience of playing guitar. Going for the easy way out, especially at the beginning stage, will take away some of the fullness of being a guitarist.

Just some personal advice.

what i did was... go to any guitar shop. pay him 20 bucks to do a proper set up and change strings... and jolly well sit there and WATCH him do everything... that should give you a general lesson.
Can ask questions too if dunno anything. like what tools you need... what needs to be adjusted...etc... string changing is something you will be doing regularly so it should get easier the more you do it.

when i restring , i slack some string and start coiling...but its super messy and it overlaps each other and nearly builds over the pegs like honey comb.

Oh....Ohh....... too much strings there. The slack should just be enough for roughly 2 turns on the peg. Overlap means more space for the strings to shift over time, which you would want to avoid at all cost when you gig, gets out of tune easier.

I have see a lot of noobs and some with just 1/2 turn on peg. If you whack hard enough the string will just slip off the peg stop. Also not advised.

Restringing actually require some skill to do properly. Also after initial tune up, you should pre stretch the string and retune. It will definately run off at least one key. This helps to shorten the break-in time of your string.

I believe that many guitarist always experience new strings slacking during the first 1-2days of installing. By following the above could help you reduce the need to retune often.

Regards,
Mike
