Regret buying M-audio product - A cautionary tale

i'm using the MobilePre USB on Vista SP 1. The shop i bought it from did warn me about the unstablity of the product on Vista but said that the driver updates were frequent. And i downloaded the Vista driver and it worked like a charm :)

Sorry, haven't checked this thread in a while.

Anyway, I found a way to get Transit-USB working in Vista. The solution is quite dumb, actually. You have to slide the volume lever down, and then up, before any sound will come out. But even though it's working, the latency is absolutely terrible. I get better latency from my pc's inbuilt soundcards with ASIO4ALL drivers.

It's now in my cupboard.

Hiya:
I have to do the same with the ASIO4all setup to stop the sound from 'cracking' - move the buffer slider then close audio setup. The sound from the internal soundcard will be good as new:D And it's a Vista machine of course. Thanks for telling us about the latency of Transit-USB - it is one of my choices of external USB cards. I was thinking of buying a external USB audio device thinking that the sound from internal soundcard wasn't that good. Don't they say zero latency monitoring?

Yes...USB are not the best solution for audio. for MIDI it's fine, but not for audio. And I agree with Nextis, Mac platform is always a preferred platform around the world in this industry. True enough that Windows user can argue back with whatever reason you've got. But sad to say that I uses both Mac and Windows and I have not encounter much issues with Mac as opposed to Windows.

Thats true in the audio world these days. but actually not all companies do support mac. For instance, i personally feel that yamaha are friendlier to the pc users. A good example would be yamaha's universal usb to midi driver. Yamaha's latest usb to midi driver is still at 10.5.4 when snow leopard is already out for some time already.

well, in the past, i feel that m-audio's products weren't good. Its midi controllers and keyboards had really bad feel and its audio interface weren't really that good. But its new range of products like the fw610 and profire 2626 were seriously good. I just bought the profire2626 and i would say that a 1k audio interface with 26ins and outs, 8 preampable channels has seriously good sound. i believe m-audio are trying to better themselves now.
