Who would wanna buy
can count in one sitting..who wanna record album when hundreds-of-buyers not guaranteed? Some got the cash..so record album for self-satisfaction only. Wanna b one of them? Sponsor me. I make good curry.

alot of bands are not aware of "financial planning".. either that or they don't take recording seriously. (unless just a cheap demo to get gigs.)

if you tell them it takes a rough estimate of $100+ to $200 per (layer recording) song for a standard market rate studio. they will think it's expensive when it comes to individual opinions. but ironically most of the time they don't realise that "$150 divide by the number of band members." and it's a few 2 digit bucks that each member has to fork out. (too bad for you nice guys paying for your band members)

or how is life gonna be like, missing out a couple packs of cigarettes to meet the budget?

anyone pls don't flame me, if it doesn't apply to your band, then you don't have to get defensive and know that i'm not referring to you.

90¢ worth

my band just did a recording last night at studiophile
(thnx to the guys who pm-ed me on the recording studios & stuff)

i guess why not many bands really want to record is probably cos they don't have much money...like what blueprint said...most just think it's too expensive but when u think about it and calculate the cost after dividing...it ain't that bad...

and err...btw...what does EP stands for?

the only reason would be : they're not serious as a band. This is because, money is never a problem. Want to do something? you will always have to work for it right? If you want to say no buyers? I'd say, you have to work on marketing. Just make sure the music is good :D

i wouldnt say money is not a problem. some of my band mates don even have like $10 in their piggy bank, how the hell they gonna fork out like a few hundred dollars for an ep?.

ok. What you do is, calculate each member's allowance/day and divide it into half. Save that amount of money each day and before you know it, you can hit the recording studios and in the mean time, you can practice more before the real recording, thus, the amount of recording time needed will be reduced due to increased tightness. Other option is, work when you can. Hope that might help your band solve the money problem. Remember, when there is a will, there is always a way :D

actually my band is going to record our album EOY anyway haha.. we got members *like me* that can pay for those who cant afford. ;).. just wanted to say tat lots of bands consists of teenagers that don have savings etc.n they might not have the cash to record. but as the saying goes : as long as there is the will, there is a way

To scare you guys really, it cost S$1000 on minimum to record a song on minimum market standard average, not S$100 to S$200. This is becos in getting things really right, many more popular artist would do many takes to bring it closer to perfection.
Most bands however in Singapore just do relatively less takes on their songs to give a pretty sub-quality standard, that's why the average becomes down to just 3 to 6 hrs a song. Overseas, Kurt Cobain can go to recording studios for 3 days on just 1 song, and popular acts do roughly 40 takes on the vocal track on average.

However, feedback is really necessary. Most bands inclined to their own taste will find it hard to see from their audience point of view. Performances aren't true to the heart as that is variable according to venue and moments (the audience is drunk and they don't really care whether it's well done or not, they just want to rock!). I believe most bands should actually do demo recordings of 3-6 hours in the studio per song ($100-$200) once they feel they are 60% done on the song. Then show it out to friends etc for their feedback.
After their demo, when they want to get master quality, they should really practice till they are tight, then spend on good recordings till perfection.
Unless if the scenario is you know someone who has a studio, then you might be able to work out something.
