Recommendation of budget Mixer

Hi all. I'm asking on behalf of my friend.

He is getting a Shure Beta 87A that needs phantom power

mic w/phantom power supply > usb on computer

What are the recommendation of a budget mixer? Probably a 2nd hand mixer.

Or is there any way to connect the mic to the computer without losing the quality other than going through a mixer?

And also is there a XLR>USB mic connector? That would probably saves up alot.

Mainly use for vocals recording.

Thanks in advance!

I think if ur fren only needs 1 or 2 inputs, just for vocals or etc, and has no intentions of expanding to more than 2 mics, maybe an audio interface with phantom power is suffice. Creative Emu 0404 usb, Tascam 122, M-audio are some options, mostly within $500...

Shure Beta 87A that needs phantom power = likely a condenser mic. (I haven't read the specs yet)

mic w/phantom power supply > usb on computer = bzz wrong, you missed out a "Preamp"

What are the recommendation of a budget mixer? Probably a 2nd hand mixer. = maybe what your friend needs is just a preamp. EQ can be done inside DAW (audio software)

Or is there any way to connect the mic to the computer without losing the quality other than going through a mixer? = you miss out capturing the mic's signal without a mic preamp. to answer your question 1) get a killer mic 2) get a killer preamp 3) get a killer soundcard

And also is there a XLR>USB mic connector? = nope. only this : http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1810&brandID=2

20¢ worth.
