Recommend some good Paul Gilbert/Racer X cds

Paul Gilbert's new CD, Space Ship 1, sounds interesting.

But for some tried and tested CD's....

Racer X - Technical Difficulties (My all time fav)

Racer X - Street Lethal (If you can stand the singing, IMO)

Paul Gilbert - Acoustic Samurai (Must get)

Paul Gilbert - Alligator Farm

You can listen to sound samples on Amazon.com before buying.

These are just some of my personal reccomendations. Try Mr. Big too. There's some pretty decent stuff.

Acoustic Samurai features Paul leaning towards pop based songs, but maintaining the shred madness, all on acoustic. Seeing Scarified on the song list was more than enough to make me buy the album, btw, it's Scarified, played on acoustics :wink: Don't wait man, get it now!!! :smt023

I have the 'Burning Organ' album.

It's more song oriented and very little shredding. Avoid unless you love to hear him singing.

IMO the guitar tone is better than his vocal tone...not only on this video but also on his album..

That's the Ibanez/Tama 90th Anniversary video featuring The Hoshino All Stars, i.e. Andy Timmons, Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai.

Personally I think Paul Gilbert's singing is pretty ok. I've seen much worse. Listen to the vocals on Street Lethal and you'll know what I mean. The guitar riffs kick ass, as usual.

PG (PGM90HAM) and SV (JEM 90th Anniversary) got special 90th Anniversary guitars to go with it

Still, those four CD's are my reccomendation, hope you enjoy them.

God, yeah!

Jeff martin really sucks! It's like he has his nuts caught by a Rottweiler! I have the 'Racer X - Live at the Whiskey' DVD and not only does he sing like a Eunuch on helium, but he uses this dumb hands-free mic that looks like a Nokia Bluetooth headset that leaves him not knowing what to do with his hands when he sings. Consequently he looks like he's constipated half the time. This misguided lunacy is only matched by Jon Anderson's (of Yes) laughable curly wire mike that he used in the late 70s. If you wanna look cool as a singer, for goodness sake get a mic stand and swing it round like Axl Rose!

..okay - I feel better now I have expressed my feelings on Jeff Martin...

his vocals are really nice... i like the way he uses theory to emphasize his songs.. like many beautiful and complex chords are used in his songs... it really shows his great deal of knowledge of theory.. but remember, a song should never emphasize theory or technique. theory or technique should EMPHASIZE the song

I haven checked it out yet... but i think there was an album where Paul and his uncle played the blues i think.... correct me if i am wrong....
