hiya I got a squier standard strat but been plugging into hi-fi system so the sound is just crappy. Can someone recommend an amp? So far I see a lot of people recommending roland cube while my friend says Marshall. I'm looking for between 10-30W and preferably more effects built-in. Thanks =)

P.S Will rust on the pick-ups affect the sound?

the roland cube 30 goes well for metal heads coz of its distortion types so they mainly use the rectifier settings. but they do have other effects which i think would be suitable for your needs... if ya wanna practise, and record music, th effects come in handy

you can only rely on marshall for its overdrive. however, if you want an amp for JUST practise, then get marshall

I'm assuming u dun have any efx at all to plug in to the hi-fi set? Or else u must be using analog pedals(correct me if i'm wrong). 1 option is to get a cheap multi-efx unit to simulate the amp(Vox ToneLab LE or Korg AX1500G). U can continue using the hi-fi set. Or u can get a Cube series or Line 6 Spider III series amp.

whether an amp is suitable for a certain music genre is up to the user to decide. it's important you try one before forming a final opinion.

well you have 2 choices right now...

1. get an amp so you dont plug into the hi-fi system anymore

2. get an amp simulator (eg. sansamp, vox tonelab, line6 pod, korg zoom etc), so that you can plug into the hi-fi and it will sound much better
