Recommend a good bass under $500, newbie here

screws will damage the bass eh ? is there a non screw glue on alternative ?

if u put the thumbrest permanently...wont damage ur bass at all =) but if you still not sure,better dun put,its the same like tattoo la,hahaha,except that you can cover the holes with wood filler

or if you put the thumbrest on the pickguard... then if you ever decide to take it off, just change the pickguard at the same time and nobody will be the wiser
