Hey guys,i am intending to buy an amp for home practice.Preferabaly,a 15-30 watt tube amp. My budget is below 400 bucks. Thanks!

I prefer the amp's solid drive. That warm/fat nice distortion, as for clean, i would prefer it to be really bassy/warm and jazzy, like a fender champ amp maybe?

For SGD400, you can get the 12" speaker and maybe get some wood to DIY the cabinet.

For the amp unit itself, maybe try to save up to around SGD1200 at least, so you have some budget to play with.

Then find one that you find suits your needs.

i bought a laney lc15r for around $480, new. But i got it from tom lee in hk and hand carried it back...

If you haven't tried out a Vox, maybe you would like to try out the ac15. For your budget you may be able to find one used.

Well i think the tube amps you can get around 400 bucks in Singapore now are

Epi Valve Junior
Blackheart Little Giant -Yamaha at tamp can demo
Laney LC15 (that's pushing 400)

Blackheart doesn't have a drive channel though. Epi is just one knob..

There seems to be an increased interest in cheap tube amps these days. Peavey has the Valveking 8, Fender has Champ 600, Crate has its V5 (is V5 avail in S'pore? who's the official crate dealer?)

Those amps aren't easily available locally to my knowledge though.

You might be interested in getting an attenuator like the THD Hotplate from TY to help get Power tube saturation from these low wattage tube amps at a usable-at-home volume.

Alternatively, head to ax84.com and DIY urself.. anyone know roughly how much THAT would cost?

^^^ +1. I was about to say Rocker 30 but price is at least 1k USD.
By the way, THD Hotplate is like 300 USD i.e. like budget for whole amp :)

I guess nearest one with that budget will be hybrid amps

rather difficult to suggest a good tube units with such specs. would cite Peavey's JSX as an amp superb in the clean & overdriven front but that's beyond your working budget.
