Re: VOX PATHFINDER 10 AMPLIFIER

Due to my limited budget, i am thinking of getting a
VOX Pathfinder 10.

Initially, i have my mind set for MG10CD(Marshall),
but i was told it is made in INDIA, quality not that good.
So VOX pathfinder 10 would be my second choice now.

Heard that VOX 10 produces the best clean sound
and distortion for its size.

Is this animal worth a buy? Need your input....

i know. But my budget is only 100 to 120 dollars.
I need something small and easy to carry around.
So 10w would be the ideal size......

How about adding $60+ more and u can buy a vox pathfinder 15w with reverb($188 at luther).....that would be better

but the pathfinder 15 is quite a bit bigger than the pathfinder 10, i've tried both amps, theyre both quite loud for their size, and the cleans are real nice, BUT their drives are not so heavy, even when maxed out

I am concentrating on 10w amp now. I dont think i will be using reverb that often anyway...... thanks for the suggestion...

This input is really helpful. Yeah! heard that the Clean is superb(pathfinder 10w). But some users says that the distortion is not bad at all. May be that is individual preference....

well! i am looking for something very portable. 10w amp is the best choice.
But i will try the smarvo too. for the sake of comparison.

can save up $40 more then get the smarvo 40w amp also... think more worth it

yup small amp is enough for home practise...

for vox, their inbuilt distortion is a the real "overdrive"

when u compare to the marshall MG15, vox distorton sound "weaker" but in fact, vox's distortion is cleaner...

its hard to use vox's distortion cuz mistakes can be heard easily but once u are able to get clean clear tones out of ur chops, u'll start to appreciate it...

its good for home practise cuz it trains u to play "properly" and not do the AHW (any how whack) technique...

10W amps are very protable... good for outdoor activities like bbq where there's a socket nearby... hmm...

I know Marshall MG10CD is good for its Distortion but poor in Clean.
Which brand offer both good Distortion and Clean? i mean 10w amp.

VOX -- GOOD CLEAN BAD DISTORTION
MARSHALL -- AVERAGE CLEAN GOOD DISTORTION
BRAND ?? -- GOOD IN BOTH AREA??

No no.. the MG10 has a horrible distortion sound. Very digital and fuzzy...

I would reccommend the Roland Microcube. It should be abt $157 at Swee Lee. Its a modelling amp with excellent cleans and great distortion. You will not regret getting it for a practice amp... IMO, its the most versatile practice amp out there under $200.

Voxes are very much for blues.

you don't play guitar right? hmmm.....

Queen use Vox amps and they ain't blues. Many others too. How many blues guitarist can you name that plays vox amps.... I can't think of any now.

anyways incidentally I just bump into a friend of mine and he bought a pathfinder 10 and he's very much happy with it. I have the bigger pathfinder and I honestly quite like the sound.

Have done some surgery to it adding in a 10" EH speaker and modded the clipping circuit so that I can get more clean in higher volume. It'll help a lot to cut the 2 pin socket and change it to a 3 pin socket. There's a ground wire inside the cable that can be connected to the earth pin. Helps a lot in hum and static.

Thanks for both of your inputs....

I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion toward a product.

Some might think VOX suit best for BLUE while other might
think it otherwise.. well... edder... i do see your point though.
thanks....

In fact, a friend of mine says that VOX is famous for their
Wah Wah Pedal and for amp wise, not very well known...

Guess wangdexian, will rather use this amp for blue.

Well! afterall, it really boils down to what kinda sound each of us like personally...

Be cool and funky.....

:supz:

I apologise if I sound like nit picking... but do cut me some slack... i'm an old man... :D

First its "Blues" as in the genre not "Blue" as in the color.

Secondly, your friend may need some education in the school of rock. Vox amp not famous... he probably have not heard of the legendary AC30.

Thirdly, wangdexian told me on the other thread that he doesn't even play guitar.

No offense hor! Just pointing out only. :D
