Question regarding condenser mic

I'm planning to do a little DIY not-so-serious recording. Was wondering if a condenser mic will suffice for recording percussion, vocal and acoustic guitar parts? Or is it a bit over-kill.

Also, if i wana buy a condenser mic for that purpose, what's the price range i should be looking for? Where is a better place i can go to to buy?

Just get a large diaphragm condenser mic and do a 1 mic recording setup for drum kit and you should be fine. It is not overkill to have 1 microphone. It is underkill. ;)

It's not ideal but it will work for your purposes. You should be looking at something like an AT2020, which should cost about 130-150.

jacky is right - but i'd go a step further. Get the AT-2050 where the polar patterns can be changed. You'll find its versatility very very much to your advantage especially if you're gonna use it as one-mic-for-all microphone :)

Agree with all the above posts. If you can fork out the extra cash, the AT2050 will serve you very well as a first mic. The added value of the 2035 and 2050 is that they both come with a "spider" shockmount as standard, whereas the 2020 only comes with a regular screw-on type mic holder. The AT8449 shockmount itself costs as much as the 2020 if purchased separately.
