Question on playing

Hi, I'm learning Europa by Santana...
Sometimes there is a need to play notes on different strings quickly, so I play it as a chord. Say

I finger the three notes with one finger and play it consectively. Problem is, on moderate gain, the notes sound a bit mashed up, like the strumming of a chord. I'm relatively new to guitar, coming from acoustic. Is this mashed up sound desirable ? Or should I finger the notes one by one when I play?

The mashed up sound is because u let the previous note to ring by not letting off the pressure from the string...So the next note u play will "overlap" with the previous ringing note...and hence the mashed up sound... 8)

If im not wrong, its called 'bleeding'. AS in the notes bleed into each other.

this is when sweeping technique will come in useful. 'Roll' your finger off a string once it is played, if you know what I mean

It's a major chord. Either strum it or play each note separately
