Dear aspiring drummers,
I'm an experienced professional drumset player offering quality guidance in the art of drumset playing to absolute beginners at my brand new teaching studio space called Home Ground.
Here's a basic outline what we'll cover:
1) Hand Technique - getting a good fundamental stroke and tone in a relaxed, efficient manner. Learn of the basic rudiments: Single Strokes, Double Strokes, Paradiddles, Flams, that will become part of the rhythmic vocabulary of drumset playing.
2) Bass Drum Pedal Technique - feeling totally connected with the bass drum pedal for maximum control again with a relaxed, efficient technique.
3) Introduction to Sight-Reading (don't let this scare you! I'll show you an easy way to decipher this seemingly mysterious language!)
4) Develop a basic library of drumset rhythm patterns as applied to Pop/Rock and be able to construct your own eventually
5) Construct fill patterns as applied to Pop/Rock and be able to construct your own basic fill patterns (application of creativity)
6) Develop your ears - being able to hear rhythmic patterns and hear individual instrumental parts when playing to music
7) Developing time-keeping and feel (work with metronome, pre-recorded music, and MIDI sequences will be incorporated into the lessons)
8) Learn to play with music via recordings and live musicians!
9) Learn to play the drumset with a good touch and tone at different volumes
10) Learn to blend your sound on the drumset with the rest of the band and the room
11) Get to learn songs of you choice relevant to what you're learning!
These above points cover my philosophy to teaching drums - to impart the tools to help aspiring drummers function successfully in a wide variety of musical situations possible! The lessons are also a platform to provide students to learn more about themselves through the journey of learning this fascinating instrument and also to discover the joy of making music.
