Punk Rock Vocalist needs help!

Hey all,I am vocalist for my punk rock band,The New Authority, and I badly need help for my singing!
ProbleM: After a session of singing,my left jaw muscle(Is that it?) would hurt when I try to open my mouth in the manner I would trying to eat.I'm not sure if it's the jaw muscles, but it's on the left of my mouth, where I'd call a wall? The muscles there tend to be maybe,over-strained...resulting in my problem.I don't think it has anything to do with what I heard about "TJM" or something like that,or is it...?
I need to know what's the cause of this pain that I have when I try to open my mouth like when I'm trying to eat after a session of singing. My own opinion is that I have strained the muscles at that part too much...
Is there any warm-up or something to relax my jaw muscles to help prevent this probleM?
And on a side note,I've not taken vocal lessons and thus,am completely self-taught,I want to know from people who perhaps have taken such lessons, how does it feel when you sing?
For me,when I sing,I tend to push from my diaphragm and I am able to feel myself pushing. Is this the right way? What else am I suppose to look out for/ feel?
+It might help to say that I sing like how Billie Joe from Green Day sings. We're a band very much influenced by Green Day. :)
(PS: Any recommendations for good vocal improving websites that provide free, effective stuff like warm-up and such so I can improve my singing?Or better yet,a correct approach to Billie Joe's vocals, which I could be doing wrong?)

I know you don't want to hear this, but I recommend paying for vocal lessons :)

If you really want to do it for free, you can try:

1. Use "mum" as an exercise on scales. As you sing it, make sure your jaw moves up and down as you sing the sound. As you cross your break (somewhere around middle C), make sure your jaw is able to drop down and back a little.

You can also use "nay". That's a dipthong - the vowel changes from "eh" to "ee" as you sing it, and that vowel change helps stop you from locking up. Also make sure your jaw is moving in this one too. Once your jaw stops moving, that's a warning sign.

Hey GDPunkRock,

First of all, take a break from singing, stop before you cause permanent damage. No matter how difficult it is; because you are hurting yourself by singing. If you want to, give me call at 91880920 so we can discuss about the issue.

Gary.

Ur style of singing sounds to me like you use more of your throat rather than your diaphragm. Rather than a strong push, feel a constant force from your stomach level all the way to your head. Whether its high pitch or low pitch, there should not be a strain to your throat. When one's voice attempts to force out a high note, the mouth tends to open way bigger than necessary. Watch out for that and it should be better. Goodluck
