PRS Hollowbody .... Are You Experienced

Heard a lot of good things about the PRS Hollowbody. Does anyone has any experience to share? And how much does it cost in Singapore?

My music preferences are the slower stuff .... mainly blues, slow rock and jazz ... and wonder whether this is the one that do it all.

BTW (guess this is the part that I will get flamed) ... I have just pick up the hobby ... and wanted something that could do it all and do it all for a long long time. My other option is an Eric Clapton Signature Strat .... but don't think Jazz would sound good on that.

I've had one short experience with a Hollowbody before though it was unamplified since an amp was unavailable.

Light weight guitar.

The fretboard felt just like the PRS solidbody models.

Regards.

well, though i've not tried the PRS hollowbody b4, i have tried the ibanez, yamaha and gibson models of the Jazz guitars.

i find that all in all, the gibson is still the one that caught my attention. the feel, and the fullness of it. but the yamaha one is also not so bad, ImHO tt is..

din really like the ibanez ones due to its price...coz i feel that the construction was somehow a little bit 'shaky'...yeah..esp. the neck ... ibanez owner..pls dun flame me..haha..yeah..IMO...that is..and the ibanez was a well used guitar...

yuzp...just my 5 cents.

Well i dont think there's anything wrong with a beginner going for a high-end guitar. The people who flame you for it are probably just jealous.

On the other hand, if you have just started out, you may not know exactly what kinda guitar you really want, apart from aesthetics.

But if you get serious about your new hobby and you progress in your playing, i believe you will be hard-pressed to convince yourself that just ONE guitar is good for everything.. haha... Many intermediate players are always pining for that ONE more guitar for that elusive tone that their current guitars lack.

Just a little warning... but seems to me you can afford more guitars in future anyway (ok, that's me being jealous)

Hope you stick to ur new hobby!

...not that there is anything wrong in newbie buying expensive guitar. But at least go find out more on what make up the guitar, the definitions of bridge/neck pickup, selector switch or the neck radius and such...

its always funny to me, hearing someone who bought a really good guitar and ask questions on what is the selector switch for, how does the bridge pickup tone sound different to the neck pickup or what pickup to change for this genre, that genre.... when in the first place, the problem is with the person, not the gear.

sorry if i do offend, just what i thought, imho.....

Thanks for all the advice on path for a beginner ....

I think I have threaded that path (in a short few months that I took it up) ...given that I started with a cheap Behringer kit (and sold), and now have on hand .... Fender MIJ Contemporary Strat, Fender MIJ Fotoflame Strat, Fender MIJ Telecaster, Epiphone SG, not to mention an acoustic and a classical .... *really equipment siow*

AND not to mention that I could be seen at some of the more established pre-owned guitar shop most lunch time of the week. BUT still can't play a complete song or get a tune decently :( ... of course I am taking lessons and of much exasperation to my teacher.

Latest path was upon advice of a better informed friend. So the search is on again ... focusing on music preference and artist idolization ... thus Blues, Slow Rock, Jazz and Eric Clapton, Santana and Martin Taylor.

So latest wishlist:-
1. EC Blackie (blues and slow rock) the current model, not the previous one .... which lead to one more questions ... does the old EC Strat body has swimming pool or individual pickup routing?
2. PRS Hollowbody (not santana model ... becoz hoping to get both slow rock and jazz in one)
3. Gibson J45 (for everything unplugged)

Could get tonnes of info abt Blackie and J45 but limited on the PRS Hollowbody. Thus the request for help.

And for thanks for putting up with my long winded reply.

Get the high end S series or SA series of ibanez. They sure can play jazz. But if your main genre is jazz, get a gibson LP or a 335. They sound well on jazz and other type of music too. For jazz, the guitar must sound bouncy and not thin. So the best is a guitar with mahogany body and a low-mid output humbuckers.

jazz comes from the player.

a strat is very versatile.. but why clapton's strat?.... you'd be paying a big premium to get a strat with his name on it. id suggest going to swee lee and try their 57 , 62 reissues... those are always nice imo...

a prs archtop is an unique guitar... but im not sure if its worth the price... G.A.S is a very serious disease dude.....

gotta control it man...
oh yah...if you wanna sell your MIJ strat lemme know... hee

For me using a strat for jazz is just like using asking Axl Rose to sing Autumn leaves.

I prefer fat and bouncy tones for jazz. And no point getting Clapton's strat. Just the name makes it more expensive. Get a standard strat and name it your own signature model.
