im just helping my friend to write this.
my friend who take his n level last year fail.
and he have fight to apply for ite.
but all was rejected.
Now he have no where to go.
so after thinking and thinking
he decided to take private n full time.
is it worth it and can he still managed to go to ite after he have completed his private n?

For education, its always worth it.
Better than going nowhere right? Maybe after taking the private N levels, he cna get enrolled in ITE and continue his education.

yeah.ive talk to him about dont ever give up on you education.
in fact ive gone worst than him.
i retain in sec 3 but now im a 2nd year in republic poly taking my diploma in biomedical sci.
he just need more opinion.i hope you guys give him a motivation when he see this thread.:)

You friend should not give up and give another shot in completing his basic education.

I too was a retainee, not being able to go on to Sec4. After managing to promote (barely) and go on to take O Levels, I failed O Maths, meaning I couldn't go anywhere except ITE. I didn't want to go that route so I retook my Os as a private candidate.
While retaking on my own with self study and tuition, army call me saying I must enlist as I was not with any institution. Thus in August I enrolled into into a private school, paying the 5-6 thousand needed to enroll. Mind you the cost is from March, but I only enrolled in August. My parents have been the best, I thank God for them.

So all in all, even though I'm 24 years old when I ORD from army, I have a diploma from Temasek Polytechnic and need not go back to study secondary school after army.

Tell your bro to work hard, don't give up, everyday find ways to study better, not necessarily harder, but better. Most late bloomers just don't know how to study properly. I only know how to study in 2 year of my poly.

Everyday think about clearing N's and clear it well so can get a good course in ITE and continue to work hard so can go poly after year 1. Never give up. Like music, once give up on your instrument, you are losing out on a great friend that is your instrument and the wonderful soul that is music.

yeap. to be honest my seconday life is shaky.alot of up and down.but thank god
i was bless with a beautiful family.they were really patient and motivate me and that was the time i woke up from the nightmare.my life was miserable but now my life have a smooth journey.it was great to see me get to track back.my parent was proud of me.that is what life is about.theres always ups and down.

ask ur fren juz go for it man retake N's,seriously its important, i retook N's n O's though still abit couldnt make it but at least got the cert u still can go somewhere with it...tell ur fren put hes heart into it sure can 1 JIA YOU man

Education is important. But you have to ask him what does he want... Perhaps he really can't study?

I don't see a point trying to force others to study even harder when they really can'tdo it. But I'm always sure they have talents elsewhere! :D

If he really wants to study, then get him to enroll into private institutions or enlist himself as a prviate candidate. But don't take the N levels route. Maybe get him to do Os?

yeah.he say he really3 want to study.he have talent.his drumming skill is superb.
ok fine.he is my drummer.
he say he wanted to take private n than from there he go to ite meanwhile doing part time job and take his private o.
the story actually why he fail his n badly is that because of some family issue.quite sad though.and he say if he cant succed in music maybe there a back up for it.that why he want to carry on study just that he is confused whether can he make it or not.

I may sound harsh on this. If he does not even have a N-levels cert, seriously, in Singapore.. there is no way you can survive. We are talking about an age where every Tom Dick and Harry has a degree and I have witness myself that a girl born in 92 is taking her degree now. Education is something that should not be given up and should not at any point of time be compromise. If he fails his N, so what? Get back up, and do better instead of contemplating he should continue study or not. I am sorry. The answer is a no brainer. I am a retainee who did badly in Os and never even went to ITE but I am completing my degree program from a private school. We are at the dawn of an economic downhill, it is the best time to concentrade on education instead of contemplating on surviving out there with a job. It may seem tempting and fun at first but seriously.. no.. you wont make it far. So after my endless blabbering, YES! Retake N levels and work 10 times as hard, and appreciate the fact that there is no such thing as no study with passing grade. Never happens, never will.
For the least... pay attention in class or self study.

yeah.i agree with you bro.just that he feel down la so that why i need u guys motivation and advise for him.to help him stand back.so yeah.

words of wisdom....

From personal experience I have a friend who took this route of education:

Pri 1 to Pri 7 > Sec 1 to Sec 5 > 1 yr in ITE > 5 years in Poly (yup he took 10 semesters) > 2 1/2 yrs NS > 3 yrs in Priv Uni

He was 24 when he enlisted in NS and started working at the age of 30!

Talk abt perseverence...

^i'm guessing his family supported him financially? some people don't have that luxury.

On the contrary, he has been working part time (fast-food joint) since Sec school and was even a perm part-timer (security) when he was in ITE/Poly. On his own expenses he paid his bike & car license lessons and motorbike fully too. He had his share of problems (academic & family) but the great thing about him is that he took it all in his stride.

Right now, he's working as a Manager, managing and overseeing the deployments of the security guards in the different locations, at the security firm that he has been part-timing for many years and I'm proud to see him doing much better now...
