Prima Donna to open for Green Day

FANS OF American rock band Prima Donna rejoice, for they will be coming to town to support Green Day at the gig on Jan 14!

Admittedly, I had no idea about Prima Donna – I thought it was a Madonna tribute act performing stuff prior to Madonna becoming a big name (you know, “Pre-Madonna”). Luckily, there’s the Internet these days and for those of you who, like me, had no clue as to who they are (come on, there MUST be some of you out there right, admit it – I did), here’s what I gleaned: love

• Apparently Prima Donna impressed Green Day so much during their European tour that they have been invited back to open for the Day in Asia (and yes, that includes Singapore).
• Formed in 2003, Prima Donna is a rock band from Los Angeles and comprises singer/guitarist Kevin Preston (formerly of The Skulls), saxophonist/keyboardist Aaron Minton, drummer David S. Field, bassist Dan Nyby and guitarist Erik Arcane.
• The music they play has been described as “the best damn glam punk rock ‘n’ roll … timeless Dolls/Heartbreakers/Mott the Hoople sound”.
• Kevin Preston has also featured in the Green Day side project Foxboro Hot Tubs.
• They released their second album After Hours in 2008. Their first was in 2005.
• Performers they’ve played with include: The Undertones, The Muffs, The Stranglers, Toyah, 999, The Polecats, The Electric Prunes, Nikki Corvette, Rikk Agnew, Razor Dolls and The Bellrays. Oh yeah, and Green Day too.
