Practicing late at night

Hi guys.

Just picked up my interest in guitar. Have been practicing till 2am after I got home from work, almost everyday. I try to make it a point to do strums before 10.30 to 11pm, and then on to picking because strumming is loud and produces all the echoes and stuff.

I read on some discussion on using headphones via electric guitars, but I'm not too sure if its necessary for me to switch to electric partly because of my music preferences. I listen to Chinese songs and hence I feel that I'm more to acoustic guitars. That time when I shopped for my guitar I saw these acoustic guitars with some component for jacks? My noobish guess is that with those guitars I can output to an amp and then input to the headphones?

Please advice thank you.

yes, that's an option. you can also invest in a multi-FX unit which has a headphones outlet, i'm doing just that with my PocketPOD here:

^ Do note that the threadstarter's using acoustic guitar. Hmm bro, plugging an acoustic into and amp and out through headphones won't make a difference.

You could try a soundhole cover, which would lower the volume by a lot. Alternatively, going electric with the set-up suggestion by subversion would work too :)

the only way to soften acoustic guitar is to buy the suppressor which is originally designed to reduce feedback when plugging in during a live.
but for your case, u can try that too. hope it works!

Do care about sizes, i see your picture.. that guitar sound hole isn't a full complete circle, so u might encounter problem trying to find the right suppressor.

good luck!

Those are acoustic-electric guitars. What you can do is connect the input into your computer as it already has a built-in pre-amp. And then you can headphone out from your computer. Hope that helped!

You might want to consider Yamaha's Silent guitars. You can try them out in the yamaha outlet in singapura plaza I think.

you know, i dont think acoustic guitars would produce taht amount of loudness, it probably is softer than watching soccer late in the night, so yea, i dont see a problem bro,

I agree.
Even if you strum like crazy, the sound won't be pitching loud if you close your windows and door.
I play the acoustic late at night too, it's all good.
Cos the tv outside is way louder than my guitar.

Thank you all people for replying.
Your replies were informative, and with that said, maybe TV's really have a louder sound output compared to the guitar haha.

Nonetheless I'm still thinking of getting an electric-acoustic guitar, but this time's for making sound, and not to muffle it.

blessing in disguise..

good touch usually is developed where there is a need to play softer then usual...

many "guitarist" after playing for years still cannot play soft...cause no control over the strings..

so take this opportunity to develop that..hehe

Wow, beautiful goldtop there bro. And yes i don't think acoustics can produce that loud a sound unless you're strumming really hard. :)

acoustics can be loud. definitely can be. it all depends on how well the guitar projects the sound. obviously not going to be louder than playing metallica on your electric but still, it CAN cause neighbours to get irritated. but hey, nothing wrong with practicing to play softly. ha ha, controllllllll

hmm, yes i agree with all, acoustic cant get loud, electric too if you don't blast the volume, and yes like lester said play soft, it'll lower the volume too, don't pick hard and strum hard, spoils strings and irritate your neighbour to come running to your door steps in their spongebob boxers and break your guitar apart  got experience before (: but not the breaking part. just the boxers. hah

Nono, what's the difference when using a headphone while you play an acoustic guitar when the sound is still produced?

Yeah makes sense to me...

Get a electric guitar with amp that has headphone jack la. Play in clean channel, can get a bluesy sound. Well, that's what I eventually figured out when I got my amp and guitar..
