Hi there I'm Jordan from Pixel Apartment, a home studio project primarily and currently mostly a solo endeavour. I have just completed Paper Aeroplane Ep, and I am making it available for free download, since not many people have heard of Pixel Apartment yet. Its more for exposure than profit (if any...)! So why not share it with your friends if you think it is worth a listen!

I've included a little cover art for you ipod cover flow and what not as well as some liner notes, lyrics included.

An introduction to the new Ep:

As I walked down a street, I pondered over how time has shaped the landscape as we know it today. What was it like without the pavements and asphalt? It seems that even though buildings rise and fall, kingdoms come and go, and relationships start and end, the celestial objects seem to remain forever constant, almost a testimony of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I wrote messages into an insignificant piece of paper, folded it up into the shape of an aeroplane, and threw it into the horizon. I watched as it faded away to nothingness against the backdrop of the sun.

Infinity feels innately overwhelming, a feeling mathematics does not seem to convey as well as gazing into the distance that never ends. Where would my paper aeroplane fly to? Is there an end to the journey?

This Ep is an expression of these thoughts. Hope you would enjoy it.

Tracklist:

I couldn't wait to get my hands on Time = Infinity. Both my guitarist and I are big fans of yours. I hope we can get together and play at a gig someday. Cheers!

bravo, polished stuff indeed.
the male vocals is reminiscent of ben gibbard. i see that postal service n death cab cab are big influences to you guys.
keep it up man.

No offense but vocals were rather dry in terms of processing/ambience and sounded a tad overcompressed. Plosives were also present on Sums & Equations, not sure about the rest of the tracks.

I'd suggest that you work on the acoustic drum parts....they came off quite distinctively from a drum plugin....taking a guess, it sounds like addictive drums with a pop (dry) preset. Try to work on the dynamics and feel. The drumkit could be more cohesive, currently it sounds a bit disjointed/seperated.

Guitars are quite thin and come off as being DIed.

Piano is ok...albeit with a little hint of soft-samplers.

As for mastering, the album sounds overcompressed. No doubt you got the RMS/loudness there, but the dynamics were compromised noticeably. Limiting to a peak RMS of -6dBFS is quite ambitious and has been done before, but the mix has to be really solid or else the material will just sound flat. I suggest that you aim for -10 to -12 dBFS instead. No doubt that the material will be softer compared to commercial stuff but it'll sound livelier and more vibrant. Overall the album was a little on the thin side (perhaps another artifact of overlimiting).

Overall a good effort, but the production could be tighter. Keep it up :)

I admit I'm quite bad at mastering! Still learning man. Yes the guitar is DI'd through guitar rig. And I use superior drummer and addictive drums depending on the songs. Working with bedroom space so no cost and real estate for huge amps/cabs and drum kit. Got any tips on how to make these "fake stuff" sound more real? Hehe. If not next time for an album that cost money, must really go to a studio with the real stuff to record..

Good stuff:)

this is some new stuff im hearing and its cool man. keep it up. cant wait to gig again with some new repertoire;)
