Pickups sounds weird. Please help!

Hi everyone, really need your help on a matter

I have bought myself a pair of YJM fury pickups to install into my swing stratocaster. I removed the old pickups and replaced the neck and bridge pickups respectively and followed the wiring on the instructions exactly. However, my pickups are producing a very strange noise. The output is extremely low and it sounds very weak. Something is definitely wrong here.

Basically, i have taped the red and white wires together. Bare and green to the volume pot and lastly, black to the pickup selector. My pickup selector is not the same as the one in the diagram, it has 8 on one side. So i had bridge one the 1st, middle on the 2nd and neck on the 3rd.

I have followed the exact same wiring as the diagram but why do my pickups sound like that? Please help!

for starters if you are using alpha pots, use B500k for volume instead of A500K.

it would be great if you could show us the wiring diagram that you've used. I'm assuming you followed this:
http://www.seymourduncan.com/images/products/electric/stratocaster/501015-100_RevD.pdf

First, are the red and white wires soldered together?

I'm only guessing here at this point because I don't know which wires are from where but assuming all are YJM pickups and the black wires are the hot wires, why is the yellow wire in the second post on the 5 way switch?

also, check the wiring for your tone pots. the white and yellow wire needs a swap.

I'm assuming again that you simply did a drop in replacement?

OH! Need to solder the red and white together? Ah! haha no wonder. I thought i only needed to tape them together.

Yes, that is the diagram which i am using. As for the middle yellow wire in the middle of the pickup selector, it is my swing stock pickup, thus, the different colour.

The wiring for the tone pots i didnt touch at all. Do they still need a swap?

Last question, what is the difference between the B500k and A500k pot? Also, the wiring diagram recommends using 250k pots. Im assuming that there are different types of 250k pots as well? What are the differences?

Sorry, im still new to self modding. Have a lot of questions.

Thanks in advance!

pai se for the late reply.

best to follow the wiring diagram indicated. I saw wrongly the first time. the wires from the tone pots seem to be correct.

for Alpha pots, B means linear taper while A means Audio taper. It's fine to use A but I personally feel that linear taper would be better for vol when it comes to Alpha pots. for CTS pots both vol and tone Audio taper also ok.

it's good to ask questions. it's also good to bring back the DIY spirit to this forum.

Thanks! After all the trouble shooting and frustration, I gave up and sent the guitar to Beez.

I found out that i actually burnt one of the clips on the volume pot! Hhahaa. No wonder the wiring all correct but the sound so weird.

Thanks for all the advise and replies though!
