Pickup Wiring Questions

Hi guys! I'd like to ask some questions bout pickup wirings cuz i'm like newb who can't even solder for nuts...

i got my Dimarzio Pro Track yesterday and installed it on my pacifica in the neck position...

whats in my mid and bridge position now is a true single coil and a full sized humbucker which cannot do coil split respectively...

On the Pro Track in neck position:

1) the coil tap/split mod with a push-pull pot on my new neck Pro Track had been done... but problem is, the blade which gets switch off is the 1 closer to the bridge, not the 1 closer to the neck... this should be fine, but when i go into the pickup selector at the 4th position (neck and mid) with the pot up (blade closer to bridge gets cut) the blade closer to the neck and the mid works together... by convention, the usual thing is for the inner coil (closer to mid pup) and the mid working together right?

2) how would i fix this problem? apart from turning the pup upside down (for cosmetic purpose, i want the dimarzio to face the right way :) )

3) my pups are now currently in phase, i'm afraid if i change the wiring to shut off the coil closer to the neck and make the coil closer to mid work with the mid, it might get out of phase?

and 2 more thing(bout the fullsize standard humbucker in bridge):

4) fullsize humbuckers... those type with 1 coil made of screws and the other, pole pieces... the conventional way to install it in a guitar's bridge is the screws part closer to the bridge and the pole pieces further?

5) again, same problem with the coil split in pickup selector in position 2... it is the stock wiring, where by the pole pieces (the one closer to the mid) should work with the mid... however i played around with my screw driver and found that the 1 further (the screws) work with the mid instead... how would i fix this problem again, apart from turning the humbucker around?

6) would it be exactly the same problem as that suggested by question 3?

thx a lot...

can you list what pickup configuration you have, and can you test and type out the pickup selector positions and the pickups selected? (use a screw driver to tap each coil at each position.) also, any switches/pushpull for switching? it's hard to understand what you're saying.

oh ok let me summarise:

i have S-S-H pacifica

Pro Track - Standard single - Standard humbucker

pickup selector position 5 : pro track humbucking
selector position 4 : protrack humbucking + mid (thus a slight hum)
3: mid
2: mid + humbucker's coil furtheest away from mid
1: humbucker

The above was for when push-pull is down... when it is up:

position 5: pro track's coil neares to neck
4: pro track's coil nearest to neck + mid

the rest are the same

1) yes. usually the inner coils are selected.

2),3),5),6) did u send it to a tech to wire up? send it back to him and ask him about the wiring. if u're unsatisfied, ask him to rework.

4) The "normal" way for pickup orientation is the wire that comes out of the pickup to be facing towards the pots in a typical strat configuration. There are a number of peopleflipping the orientation though for reasons I'm not too good at explaining.

i think i know why to this liao... its because of the out of phase problem which is quite a headache for me after doing some net research... not things just got more complicated...

any1 knows the ans to questions 2,3,5,6?

schredcow? sub? any1?

urm, as thor mentioned abt the flipping orientation thingy, i dun think the wiring is affected that much. its more of the tone that comes out of the pickup. i.e. on one of my strats i have a lil59 and a custom custom, neck and bridge respectively, middle is a stock SC.

anyway, i have both flipped. most noticeably, the neck's lil59 which was previously rather boomy, it became a rather smoother and more balanced pickup. honestly, i have no idea why that is so, but its rather interesting to know the sound actually changes, and in some cases rather drastically.

maybe before u rewire and stuff, u wanna try recording something played on the pickup right-side up, and compare it with a flipped version. u just *might* like the new tone haha.

i think in ur case its the further coil was activated with ur mid... thats y u had a smoother feel in the end...

having further coils activated, u'd have a hollow tele like sound while having closer coils activated u'd have a more solid sound, from what i'd gathered over the net...

thats if u didn't change the wirings at all la... if u did then it may be in phase, out of phase thing...

i also wanna get as much info as possible now so that when i send my guitar to do rewiring i can tell the tech exactly what i want... no solder iron at home... i'm a DIY kinda guy... nothing's too hard for me... but no right tools cannot do the job...

generally correct. do note that it's not very obvious for outer coils of neck and middle, as compared to say, outer coils of neck and bridge.

the reason why i would say the answer to 2,3,5,6 is to send back to the tech is, i'm guessing the tech hasn't explained to you properly what he's going to do, hence you end up with opposite coils. in this case... i do feel that he is obligated to fix up the wiring for you again should u be dissatisfied.

also, speaking to the tech also allows u to gain a lot of knowledge mah. Works better than us non-experts discussing the topic.
