Petition to get The Strokes in Singapore!

Bottomline is: It's all just business.

Concert Promoters' aim: High nett profit, cheap talent engagement fees, cheap operation overheads like venue & manpower, and minimal fuss.

Band Tour Manager's aim: As long as concert promoters meet my demands in terms of fees, requirements and treatment.

Look at how many artistes and musicians flock to that Dubai party last year. Guess how much they were paid each?

Money makes the world go round, not internet petition. No doubt the bands might really care about how you feel, but the tour managers & crew don't. They have operational costs to upkeep.

Sad but true.

If u can show there's high demand, it means high net profit for concert promoters, and they can then meet the fee requirements and treatment for bands.

Agree with MaCCa. And also, the availibility of the band itself. And weather they are willing to tour ASIA or not.

You guys just don't get it. They're a big band, not a bunch of nobodies. What makes a band like Korn perform in Malaysia and not Singapore? Or John Mayer performing in Manila? Of course there will be demand. They know who buys their records, trust me the record companies know that stuff. Sometimes even when there's demand a band will not perform if they feel that it isn't worth it. Do you think bands actually enjoy travelling and performing around the world? Some do but most don't. Do up the petition anyway, if it makes you happy. I've seen tonnes of them asking all sorts of bands to come to SG but never actually seen any work. Better luck getting the concert promoters to consider than the actual band.

There have been many instances this year whereby bands chose to perform in Singapore rather than other countries in the region so i don't think Singapore is at a disadvantage.

Most petitions don't work simply cause there isn't enough people signing up. And of course spreading the word about the petition is hard enough.

But my point is, whichever method you choose to employ, if you can SHOW there is indeed a high demand, I'm sure it will be seriously taken into consideration. Petitioning is of course one of the ways.

Bands actually start making money from tours not album sales. It's tough being on the road for a year& more, you get tired of sleeping in a bed which is not yours, changing planes.. life becomes a blur of flashing lightbulbs& nameless faces. The airport becomes your refuge at times.

I'm sure concert promoters here tie up with those in the region when bringing in acts, otherwise it's hard for a band to fly thousand of miles to play in one country where even a sell-out gig doesn't balance out the accounts.

We've been lucky because acts that stops over in Oz, usually stops over, for example.

Sometimes a band returns to play a gig at a certain venue/gig due to contractual obligations not because they want to. Events like the Dubai party& the birthday of a royalty like them folks in Brunei, presents a rewarding financial engagement& most times, it ain't the band who decide, it's the management who sees dollar signs before the wellbeing of the band themselves.

You can petition all you want, it may work but it may not. Just remember, when a band says "Wow the fans here were awesome!" - take it with a pinch of salt. It's a pretty standard reply.

Not everyone is Axl Rose.

haha some people never noticed that Muse/paramore/saosin etc had come singapore this year. :)

You have no idea how much vulgarities just spewed in my head reading this comment. Big acts do come to Singapore, WE KNOW THAT FOR SURE. It's just that demand by fans are not the only thing that plays a part in this. Metallica could play sell out concerts in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, but when was the last time they came here? 1992? Just be patient, The Strokes are generally young and new, so there's a higher chance getting to see them here.

Very good point DC.

When Nirvana stopped over years ago, they wanted to play an impromptu gig but due to the post-complexity of such an occurence, it didn't happen.

Back then it was rare for artiste/s who were current to come over to Singapore& to have had Nirvana then, could've been quite a score.

Strokes are current& seeing how times have changed with in acts like Paramore etc performing, who knows, there may be a chance of seeing them live.
