Pedal faulty or not?

I have a Boss ph-2. When the pedal is not turned on. A whistling sound can be heard. I don't hear any sound resembling a phaser when the pedal is engaged other than the whistling sound. As i increase the rate the rate of whistling becomes faster. The same whistling problem occurs when i use a battery. Is the pedal spoilt? what is wrong with it. Could anyone please enlighten me?

Hi Kevin,

Well the problem you're facing may be due to the capacitance and impedance problem. Some boss pedals face such problems. This can be largely referred to as external noise issues. You may want to get it checked out. Try to hook this up after another pedal or if you're already doing so, hook it as a stand alone. If its after an output buffer, remove that buffer.

Hey thanks alot for your response. However i'm already hooking it up with 4 other pedals. Even as a stand alone all it does it creates a whistling sound be it turned on or off. It is the same when i power it alone or by using a battery it is still having the same problem. There is a sticker that says boss aca adaptor only though. Should i try running it on 12Volts instead?

No, it shouldn't be a psu problem because you've already been running it on a battery. How are you linking it up with the 4 pedals? Name and list me the pedals, this might still be an impedance problem since you did not remove the buffer(if there is one).

Else, have you a/bed it with another PH-2? This might just be an authentic circuit problem. From what i've tried and understand, certain boss pedals have quite a few issues with the external noise. Mainly their fuzzes and dirt pedals. For the phasers well, i've always found my PH-1r to produce the most analog and warm phasery goodness out of the lot!
