does anyone actually own a peavey 5150 in singapore
if you do ,how did you come about getting your hands on it and wats the price you paid for it

cheers

My friend bought his thru a fellow soft user here. The sweet distortion tone can only be attained after cranking the volume past number 7. If you live in a HDB/condo, your walls will shake. Good amp for metal IMO. Price, back then was cheap. About $1200? I don't know about now though. It is a discontinued amp after all.

I have the Block Letter 5150 head...bought it from a user here...110v though.
I pair it up with my Mesa Boogie dual rectifier Revision F Blackface.
The clean channel on this amp isn't as bad as people say it is, rather the fact that you share an eq with your lead and rhythm channels actually makes the clean sound rather muddy coz the tone stack is shared for the lead and clean channel. Because of this the cleans go through the EXACT same number of gain stages as the lead.

if i'm not wrong the real tone is in the 'rhythm' section of the amp. some amp guru once told me (when i went to him to repair my amp) that the 'lead' section is wired to a solid state circuit board. the lead section would sound good at bedroom volume levels when you make use of the 'resonance' and 'presence' knobs. however, when you crank it, it'll sound crap.

i was told the best tone i can squeeze from it (for classic rock tones and a true tube sound) is to crank it on the rhythm section. more post gain than pre gain. turn down both resonance and presence knobs.
