palm muting

when you palm mue,do your palm need to be on the 1st to 4th strings at all times?or do you lift them up a little bit?need some guidance,really confused.thank you.

when you palm mute,you rest your palm near the bridge on the strings that you WANT to palm mute...lets say you wanna play a G power chord in palm muted style..

you would need to fret the the E and A strings

urmm you could also try buying a bag of peanuts,it will make it easier to palm mute strings..Petrucci did that,just look at him! palm muting like no one's business!
