My guitar looks abit dull with one pickup, has anyone tried painting a guitar and what type of paint to recommend? i intend to paint only some small pictures on it like a flower or dog.
It is not such a good idea to paint yourself but it is quite a fun experience if you have a crappy guitar to fool around first.
Here goes:
One of my guitar i painted : I used 60 grit sandpaper and sanded the paint off, then used a 120 grit sandpaper to make the guitar smoth, then i used 260 grit to smoothen more, then i covered up all of the parts i din want to paint with masking tape, then i used an airbrush to paint the body. Before i painted it i put primer on first so the paint would last. I held the airbrush far from the body and put really really really light coats on....i think i did 9 or 10 coats. The guitar i did it on was a fairly shitty Korean Ibanez rg321mh and i sold it. But the paint job was better than the original as I never like the ibanez finishes.
If you want a flower or dog, better to buy stickers.
hey jackson i was thinking of painting my rg321mh too! mine is a mii black mat finish.. is it possible if i spray paint using quality spray cans paint over the actual finish?as i was thinking of painting only parts of my guitar, if i sand those parts, the texture will be different as the other parts. hope u could help me in this =) thanks
I have never tried partial painting as i am afraid it will cause peeling if some parts are not sanded properly as the others. But spray painting may help since your finish is already matt finish and it won't look obvious for your spray paint
