Hey there guys i need some opinion about the les paul standard. is it good? whats good and whats not good about the guitar. Guess need some suggestion >.<

Good sustain on the harmonics.
However, the intonation is not that good unless its properly set up.
For the price? Its pretty worth it.

I think the Korean-made ones are pretty darn good value. I've played an MIK Les Paul and a Gibson Les Paul on the same day, and the Epi was only a little behind. Decided that I don't think I'll ever need a Gibson.

The Chinese-made Les Pauls seem a bit expensive, the quality is quite inconsistent (you must inspect carefully, and when you find a good piece, stick with it) and the tuning stability isn't too good. But like I said, inconsistent. There're probably some good ones.

i've been looking around online and in store and considering three of these guitars, epiphone les paul custom, the epiphone les paul custom plus, and the les paul standard.

while there are minor difference in say the bindings, and perhaps burst finish with the custom plus, or neck thickness in the custom - standard per se....

my main woe here that i've been holding off asking is....which store would you recommend to get a decent epiphone from the above 3 mentioned?

i've tried swee lee and guitar 77, but guitar 77 doesn't stock in alphine white, and swee lee does have a good range though i'm pretty bummed over the condition of the displays. in a sense the tuners are past corroded, and the guitar is in need or severe setup. i'm cool with minor visual defects, but essentially what i'm truly worried are matters such as warped necks etc, and for the life of me after staring at the guitar in my hands whilst trying it, i can't see any warp necks, spilt glue on the fretboards on the guitars as claimed on epiphone's notorious QC.

seems pretty decent to me thus far the guitar at swee lee, despite somewhat downwatered service. that aside. i'm worried about getting a guitar that upon sending for setup, do i then realise the full extent of its problems etc. so what should i truly look out for? and how also?

CHEERS! would greatly appreciate the tips on how to spot these problems!

Standard Value is the answer to the above question. 1-stop shop that can handle all the problems with your guitar. Just buy it from Mike. It'll come in good condition, fully and properly setup.

if you are buying at the bras Basah showroom, you can request for a fresh piece- they'd bring one in from the warehouse (subject to stock availability) for you but you have to wait 1 working day for this to happen.

anyway, +1 to buying at Standard Value.

standard value? thanks for the help guys, i truly appreciate the direction! =D now to keep my fingers crossed for epiphone alpine white there.

I think with Epiphone, you're paying for brand name as well as it's a subsidiary of Gibson. I still prefer my KGarage piece. It may be budget, but for that price, it's bang for your buck. Plus with my original budget around 500, i had enough cash to change out the stock pups.

Haha wow i didnt expect much discussion on this issue, anyways thanks guys for all the info on the epiphone. I currently just got a COPY of epiphone, well traded it with one of my guitars with a guy, claiming it to be a MIK standard honeyburst but after inspection in SV, mike told me its a fake. But its a HIGH quality copy as the wood is still mahagony and is a sterdy copy which could be comparable to those epiphones. So i bought some EMGs and threw them inside the les paul. I sent my les paul for installation at SV at that time and had to wait like 4 hours to get my guitar done? Cus there were 2 other guitars that were there before mine. From 4 to 8 i was there. The installation and setup of my guitar alone took around 2 hours. I had to pay around $150 bucks to replace the pots and servicing but it was worth it though. The sound is awesomee and now my COPY les paul beats epiphone's and some of gibsons i guess. Haha.I am happy i did the mod. Would like to thank Mike most of all for spending his time there eventhough he had to leave at 7, he stayed and fixed my guitar until 8.30.
Btw, just saw the epiphone les pauls at SV, they dont seem to have alpine white though >.<

seems like there's alot of love for SV and its services. I most definately will be patronizing from their store for an epi then. Hmm if they dont' have alpine white, i wonder if they do have the vintage sunburst for custom or standard.

well, i wont' know till i check it out at their store this sat. bloody MSTs are taking all my time. can't wait to go guitar shopping.
