Nickel or stainless steel?

Okay, quite a noob question here I suppose but what are the main differences between nickel and stainless steel strings?

i'm looking to change strings;

and apparently nickel is warmer and stainless steel is brighter and more metallic.

can other bassists with experience verify? =)
 
fresh stainless steel string can be quite a bitch when you try to slide :lol:
not as smooth as nickel,but hell,it really give a nice bright sound when you slap...
 
Yeap,

gotta agree that stainless steel strings for one, are a little more durable compared to nickel strings ... definitely brighter and a little harder in terms of the "boingy-ness". haha.

Nickel strings are warmer and has a more acoustic tonal vibe to it.
