Nice first songs?

Hi people, please recommend some nice first songs for me to pick up!

Hopefully no Chinese songs at all, cause I'm not into em and wouldn't know what I'm playing :lol:

Reason for this thread is because I'm learning the guitar by myself by going through Berklee's Modern Method for Guitar Vol 1 - 3, but they're all music theory and very technical based. So I want to learn a few songs to make it fun.

Anyone has some songs to recommend for a greenhorn?

Ok not joking but there is one particular song you can learn in order to brush up the following skills:

1. strumming
2. finger-picking /hybrid-picking
3. pentatonic scale
4. slide, finger vibrato, hammer-on/pull-off
5. singing (that is if you can sing)
6. rock-on attitude

Hands down by Dashboard Confessional. Its pretty easy and fun.

Can try 'Knocking on Heaven's door' by Guns n Roses; has a simple G D C C / G D Am Am progression that repeats throughout the song, you can also learn the arpeggios to make it sound more lively and 'full'.

Yes, Stairway to Heaven is a very classic song and it would be good to learn it as your first song once you could hold that guitar. It wasn't my first though, but something like the tenth or so. Hehehe....! That is after I learnt how to pluck with my fingers, I make it a must to learn it. Till now, I still can never forget how to play it except I might forget about the arrangement.

I wouldn't choose Stairway To Heaven as the first song... It's too hard and technical for a beginner.
