hi i am a newbie here, just got my acousti guitar 3 days ago n its a fina FN 701 NT. i know its a crap guitar but i guess it will do for now.

i hav lots of problem getting my basic chords right (the C, G and D major chord). the strings keep sliding under my finger nail hence the sound is always muffled. n i realize i hav to press quite hard be4 the string makes e crisp sound it shld. is it me or the guitar that has e problem? i know some guitars hav strings that are v high frm e fretboard, hope mine is not that bad =(

my fingers are aching now so i hope things will get better when callous start growing.

appreciate any help frm u guys!!

well, u shld cut ur nails. that is the thing u shld do.

another thing is check ur string height at the 12th fret. press the string and if it is hard, u might need to find some1 to lower the height (we usually call the string height, "action") for you.

remember to play the guitar as much as u can, to exercise ur fingers, build up callouses.

if everyting is all right, maybe i will tell u some points during r stage of learning.

master ur basic chord shapes and ur rhythm when strumming. after that, master advance chords and learn fingerpicking.

maybe after u master those 2, u might want to take a step ahead. mastering different types of music playing like jazz, blues, but u have to learn your scales (the notes on ur fretboard).

my nails are alrdy short cos i do know that i cant keep nails on my fretting hand. but there are bound to be some space under e nails?

anw for e string at e 12th fret, how hard is hard? got a reference?

trying to master my CGD chords for now =)

thks for e hlp guys!

Change the string gauge to 0.08s and change the bridge nut to make the action lower too. That's what I did with my Fina and it sounds great now though you might need to tweak a little with the neck bow to prevent buzzings if you are to change the gauge. =/

Gauge 0.08? Is it too thin already? this gauge is more for elect i think... what I've seen so far is gauge 0.10 for acoustic.

I use gauge 0.11. Just right for playing...
