New pickups for my Pacifica?

Hey guys I own a pacifica 112J. my pickups look a bit worn and rusted, and i've considered replacing them with something better. I hear seymour duncans are good for this purpose, but i'm on a tight budget, and only need something moderately better than the ones currently installed.

any recommendations?
thanks!

based on your post, i do not see why you need to change pickups.
physical wear does not mean the pickups have degenerated in quality.
change pickups unless you know what tone you are chasing, rather then their outlook

point taken. but i've planned on upgrading the pickups for quite a while now, i just don't know how i should go about starting. i'm assuming you have to try something a lil better than stock to appreciate a better tone. I like pink floyd's bluesy kinda tone, what then would you recommend to achieve somethin similar?

we understand how you feel :) but let us understand your situation (the big picture) a little more.

tell us, what amp are you currently using?

which pacifica? I love the pacifica series..
the pickups are quite ok, if im not mistaken they're alnico based?
get a decent multi-fx or stomp boxes aka efx pedal & you're good to go
about the rust, get a fine sand paper & metal polish will shine on em crazy diamonds

:)

pacifica 112J with a roland microcube. i've heard seymour duncans do a great job replacing the stock alnico ones. opinions?

i have 112J too.. original stock pickups
u mean replacement for the bridge humbucker?
it doesnt work that way, pickups got many variations

To the threadstarter :

pickups do not necessarily make up for the loss in tone. Many other things do. Such as : Wood of guitar/ Amp youre playing through and even the cable youre using. Also, investing for pickups due to tarnishing/rusting is not really worth it.

a 500$ guitar can sound awesome through an epic tube amp where as a 5000$ guitar can sound like plastic through a crappy solid state amp.

From your post there really isnt necessity to change pickups. Pickups are not everything and will not impact your sound in a entirely different direction. Many factors play a part.

with regards to pickup selection there is no absolute way to determine if a pickup is 'good' or not.

Firstly tone is subjective. What is good to me may suck to you.

Secondly you cannot tell whether a pickup will sound exactly the same as you hear based on ( soundclips/demos. ) because there are other things involved to determine the tone produced by the pickups. Hence by changing pickups, you take a risk.

To emulate pink floyds tone cannot be done so purely via pickups.

I had that guitar for a short time. built and feel is great for a beginner. I thought the pickups were ok except that I'd swap the humbucker with a higher output.

ok thanks for the all the advice thus far. talking abt pink floyd, i've been trying to nail that solo for ages, still cant get the fast bits ;(. and i've seen that video a couple of times before xD
