Hi, i'm planning to pick up playing the guitar and i am now actually looking to buy my ever first guitar. Have been browsing the posts here in the forum and Google searching for a good guitar within my budget of $200..
Happen to chance upon the a bundle deal in swee lee and would like some advice whether it is a good guitar for me to start with or are there better alternatives...

Looks like a decent package to me. No idea about the quality of the guitar, but the included extras alone could run up maybe $50.

Btw you have really, really cool forum username.

hahaha man, I thought you were replying to yourself, then I realised the spelling.

Anyway, You should try it first before buying. I know that it would be your very first guitar and you wouldn't know how to play a chord, but I advice you to handle the guitar to see whether you'd feel comfortable with it. Make sure the action is to your comfort. Since you're starting out, I recommend you to go with guitars that has a low action.

I recommend you to go hunting at peninsular, don't just stick with Swee Lee. Who knows by chance, you'd struck a pretty good deal. I'd say spend the budget on the guitar alone. I can recommend you a Swing SM-100, which goes around for $199, comes with a padded gig bag. Picks can be bought cheap. Then slowly work your way out to purchase the other accessories. You'd most probably need a tuner, so if you don't mind forking out extra $20 bucks or so, then go for the SM-100.

Thanks guys i will probably swing by peninsula and swee lee to try out the guitars first before making a decision..
And btw cool name,cheesedaele:p

So you are looking to start with acoustic guitar? If so, the package looks hard to beat at that price man! But dunno about how well the guitar plays, it's made in china I believe. For the price, I wouldn't expect greatness, but it'll still be passable I guess...you may be surprised at what manufacturing technology can do these days!

Do you already know how to play? I'm guessing you do, in which case, it's probably good to invest in a better guitar which you can hold on to and enjoy for many many years to come. A guitar like that would also probably inspire you to greater heights, and the eventual mastery of the instrument!

If you don't however, and just want a guitar as an experimental thing, like after a week or so of playing you go: "Hmmm...mebbe I won't like guitaring after all, think I'll take up bass instead!", then perhaps this is just the set for you! As you can see from the video below, playability looks to be pretty good, has low-action on a nice fretboard, neck looks pretty comfy too. Overall aesthetic appearance of the instrument leaves much to be desired though. Doesn't sound that fantastic either...

Wandered into Yamaha's flagship store at Plaza Sing last weekend and was astounded at the some of the guitars they had there! Always knew Yamaha made nice guitars ... but S$7,650.00 nice? :o I didn't think so, until I went in to browse that is! That was for some special acoustic guitar in a glass display case, but still...

They had some real nice electric guitars as well, but near the $5k price range. Their high-end classical guitars were also like $4k-$5k! I dunno much about Yamaha guitars or what may justify such a hefty price tag, but personally, for that kinda money, I'd rather get a Gibson or a Martin or a real Spanish concert-class guitar...
