New Cynic album (also, metal CD stores)

Ah - that's the Limited Edition version. Anyway - I just called Inokii to reserve mine. :)

Nice mini-review there Sub. :) Cheers.

yeah..i tot there be no one to replace my aging copy of death-human cd..being technical is on thing..but to be technical yet still brutal is another thing...

this cynic new album looks interesting...

but of course a barrage of brutality n technically like cryptopsy is a totally different matter....

'Human' to this day is the definitive DM album. Brutal, technical and melodic. This is where I first heard Masvidal and Sean Reinert play which led me to the Cynic album.

The opening barrage on Flattening of Emotions once the 'slow' intro riff is out of the way has the greatest blast beat ever committed to tape.

Anyone up for a listening party? :)

hell yeah..

the album is a all killer no filler
flattering of emotions..cosmic sea..suicide machine..lack of comprehension etc etc..

maybe its me..but i actually prefer human than the sounds of preservance or symbolic album..

i think the gritty n morrisound production really made the human album sound so 'brutal'......thumbs up!!!

Symbolic was actually a decent album though not quite as good songwriting as Human. I never liked the vocals on "Sounds.." though...

paul masdival did some work on master
u can check out jason gobel on monstrosity..if u guys like the cynic duo..can check it out...

the underlying principle here is music- you can be the most technically adept & the most brutal band in the world but if your music is turd then you're a waste of time.

I have Monstrosity's In Dark Purity and Rise to Power, though I'm embarassed to say I can't remember who played on each. Will check when I get home. I personally preferred the guitar work on 'Purity' though.

back then, people arround me were listening to Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam et al...

Heh - I know what you mean.

For me, everyone else at my Varsity (except for my three other metal buddies) were into The Smiths.
Re: Master "and on the Seventh Day" - how do you rate it? It's deleted now and before I go trawling eBay for it wondered if it was worth having.

there's a low-fi feel to it & not much of Masvidal's techncality involved. if there's any intention meant to be manifested by this release, it's that Speckman pretty much got away with whatever he wished to do back then (what Darkthrone does now...) & Masvidal is a lethal rhythm player as much as he is on solos.

for master...stick to the earlier releases...the later one, lets just say speckman got a bit indulgent.......

yeah underdtand wat u guys mean..its pretty hard when ur sec classmates were into andy lau n stuf.

some of the other bands that i thin k were worth diggin is bands like sindrome, heathen
