Needed guidance

Hi everyone,

i have always been a great fan of slash and i have always wanted to play like him (or maybe jus producing the type of sound he has), i own a Epiphone Les Paul Standard, and a DX7 Distortion pad. But no matter what settings i just seem to get that kind of scream crying over the high notes.

Will my problem be solved when i change to set of better pickups? (seymour DUncan) or is it my amp? or my distortion?

It's probably your amp. Got a Marshall stack like slash uses? :mrgreen:

Yes. It will help to change pickups (slash uses SeymourDuncans..) and your amp to a Marshall just like him and a Gibson just like him.

BUT.

You cant fully replicate his sound. It's all in Slash's fingers that made it his signature sound.
And everyone should have your own sound. As said several times. Don't fully copy your idol. Take 'em a guide.

Keruiii: 1 of the most important things that most people disregard is the amp. They are more focused on guitars, pickups, and pedals; trying to achieve a ½ stack, full stack amp kind of tone. You will never achieve that with a small watt amp. If you really want, you can try amp simulator like Line6 POD.

I will always recommend having the amp changed if you really like slash. But due to our living environments (S????poreans love to complain: very noisy), it’s a bit impossible to own a ½ stack amp, but there are some who owns it.

i think it's true, i have not thought about my amp before, im using a peavey rage 158. well is there amps that are still compact (for a small HDB room corner) yet producing gd tones like those 1/2 stack?

get the real JCM 800 vintage serie..
and one more thing.... This hobby is Expensive.

so if you cant get the right things... just leave with it. and invest in Theory-lesson, and find beez... for start off blue-rock techniques.

some day you will find your holy voices.

recreating Slash's tone without really adopting the exact equipment is tricky but as the learned SOFTies here had mentioned, your amp needs to be replace.

do consider one with at least a 12" speaker on board. get a distortion that gives you a Marshall-type voicing (there are plenty out there) & get one from there.

bro,

you'd do well to check out those with a British-type distortion, some are affordable, others are costly but let me just list a few, hope others would contribute:

*Sans Amp Tri-AC: this isn't a distortion pedal per se, more of an amp voicing emulator. has 3 modules on board; American (MESA), British (Marshall) & Clean (Fender)

*Behringer GDI21- a very affordable copy of the above unit...

*Carl Martin: Plexi Tone (the Plexi here refers to Marshall's Plexi amp of course, what else...)

*Radial Tne Bone: Hot British (not cheap)

*Toadworks: John Bull Jr

i really like the Marshall Gain. after i played once on an MG15CDR in a music school call Music Paradize.( though not the real thing yet.) and many time attempt to buy the Marshall Guvnor but instead own an HM-2, Death metal(digitech), a Metal Zone, an Ibanez SD-9. but failed to get near it..., the push button on the ZW Mircostack sound so much better than any of my pedal..

What do you think of Beez Mod DS-1. do you think it's as real as a keeley mod? rather support local modist than Ang Mo .. if i can..

i seriously dont understand much from what you guys have said, i need to pickup more guitar hardwares stuff.. any idea where to read about it? wikipedia?

I suppose you;re very much a beginner. But of course..that shouldnt stop you from dreaming big. You should.

Find out more about Slash's equipment in detail. Evryone knows he uses a Gibson LP. Get more in-depth. And why he uses them.

And last but not least..don't barge straight into learning his famous solos.
Practice your scales. Then learn his solos part by part each day/week. Cleanly.
