Hey,i don't know whether this thread should be here. But i need help here!A serious one!First off,my N levels phase 2 is commencing in 18 days time. And what i fear most now is that i'm not taking my prelims seriously!I know that it is to test whether u are prepared for N's but obviously i'm not.Cos i was so busy preparing for my phase 1 n level(Social studies, malay and english) and i had forgotten to prepare for my science and maths!Right now,i can handle science cos it's all using your common sense and remembering formulas. For maths however....haiz...terok la..i really need some tips here cos i DO want to go to sec 5 but my maths is pulling me back.Everytime i want to start studying maths,i wouldn't have the motivation to do so and i don't know why. So,poly graduates or anyone out there, can u share your experiences on this and how u cope maths..and what are the most IMPORTANT topics that i will have to remember. If not..my dream to take audio visual tech will not be cherished~~:(

18 and life..:D :(

well the most important thing is not to panic! and i got a D7 for my math for O level prelims but i forced myself to do lot of revision papers, like really, A LOT. and in the end i got an A1 for the actual O level math paper. im not kidding.

so i guess you should keep practicing, and if youre unsure of certain topics don't ever hesitate to consult your teachers.

Hi TS,

You may want to try this.

1) Break down the subject into topics (make a list) and grade them on how competent are you on each topic.

2) Set how many hours a day that you are going to revise these next 10 days. (e.g. 6 hours a day and make sure you stick to it, no compromise)

3) Space out the number of hours that you're planning to revise each day.

Spend at least 20 minutes first thing each time you wake up to do quick recall on the last thing that you've revised (do not refer, just get a blank paper and recall).

Spend at least 20 minutes to do quick summary on the day's revision before you sleep (you may want to play the guitar/bass/drums/whatever before that but not after. Allow your mind to sort out the information while you sleep.

4) For the first few days, work on polishing the topics that you ae doing well (perfect them if you can), leave it once you're confident and move on.

5) Next work on the topics that are more likely to be high marks questions based on previous trends. Try and get the concepts as clear as possible then go into drill and practice. A fatal mistake would be to move on just after one successful attempt. Move on only once you're quite confident. After the second topic, go back to drill and practice on the earlier topic.

Lets say you're weak at topic D, G, H & J. Clarify concept for topic D, practise 4 to 10 questions on the topic until you've familiarise with the topic. Then move on to topic G and do the same. BUT before you then move to topic H, try again topic D questions. (this would take you over 5 -7 days maybe)

6) Once you've covered all the topics, go though mock exam papers as much as you can.

7) Make sure you drink lots of water. Chocolate bars may help with the energy replenishing. Rest well every night.

8) Skip the urge to try cramm memorising information just before the exam. Doing that will only purge some other information that your mind has organised in your short term memory.

9) Good Luck.

Screw the prelims
Just keep doing 5 / 10 year series books again and again and again
I scored 38 points for my prelims, 6 points for my O levels.
So I can safely say, prelims don't matter nuts!

seems like no one takes their prelims seriously. hahaha. e8 prelims, b3 o's.

dont just learn blindly. keep doing 5 and 10 year series. if finish, do other school's paper. ask from your teacher, they will provide it. and please please, dont be shy to ask qns from anyone. if dont get it, den say dont get it. and if ur weak at a particular subject, do the same qns 2 or 3 times until you grasp the concept.

and when ur stressed out, play some games or guitar or what for an hr. no harm. stimulate ur mind. :)

well,18 days to go..and i can't be complacent!

wish me bad luck(good luck) ;)

chill on the prelims man, i got 43 damn points for L1R5,
made it out alive with 14 points for my Os.

first you can start, by stop coming to soft. haha. focus man..

try an alternative way of thinking. instead of thinking "how you can be an audio tech if u succeed", perhaps the thought of "oh no, i CAN'T get to do what I wanna do" may scare you instead.

that's what they say, threats are always more effective than bribes. haha.

haha..i've been actually been doing that to myself sneakpick..;) and yeah i shall stop coming here..(not!) maybe once per 3 days perhaps?haha...

oh well...17 days to go..and i'll be entering the battlefield which could change my life~~~

Firstly, and well my whole point actually.

IT'S ONLY THE N LEVELS AND IT'S PROBABLY EASIER THAN PSLE.

and if that still doesn't encourage you enough, get a study buddy or group together.
