hey guys..

i'm looking for an overdrive pedal that'll help me get sounds reminisce of hendrix/grand funk...u know..really vintage/old school sounding kinda thing

should be at a resonable price too!

any pointers?

thx chaps!

Oh yeah just borrowing this thread, whats a fuzz? a form of distortion?

or OD like sounding pedal? Thanks.

if u want an overdrive. get the SD-1 super overdrive from sweelee. i bought it at 67 first hand. Dun spend too much and buy the TS-9

Fuzz is the harshest sounding distortion. you can go to jimdunlop.comand look for the fuzzface soundclips. in the electronics section. SOund is hard to describe in words

hey..thx for the replies dudes

yeah...i'm not that crazy about fuzz though...

hmmm..i'll check out the overdrive at swee lee

oh btw..do u guys think EQ pedals are a must have? Cos i've already got EQ settings on my amp..so was juz wondering..

EQ is realy not important. Unless you need a change in EQ during songs... eg fat smooth dist.. ( pumped mids ) or a scooped dist sound (scooped mids )

most amps only got a clean and OD channel. so this would prove useful.

IMO, EQs are the BEST tone-shaping devices. Even better than swapping pickups, strings or what have you.

hendrix was about fuzz face and marshall..

Imho, fuzz is not just about harsh, some do cleans up nicely when turning down the volume knob on the guitar. Another factor that have nice sounding fuzz is setting it at moderate gain and not just all the way up to 11....

digitech has got a jimi pedal which is sort of a fuzz modelled after his famous tunes and dunlop has got a hendrix fuzz wah. But how close is it going to sound like the real deal, it's hard to say... most player looking to get the classic fuzz tone usually gotten it from the boutique side...

As for using normal overdrive to get his tone, it might be a little bit difficult. The characteristic of fuzz is wider than most distortion or overdrive, not to mention those with germanium or sillicon etc.

TOTALLY AGREE ~!
IMHO the SD1 is the best stock overdrive in Boss's lineup...

Actually their type of sound is mainly an overdriven all-valve amplifier.
