Need help with M-Audio Oxygen 49

Hi guys..

i need some help and advice regarding the M-Audio Oxygen 49 midi controller i bought a week ago.
Previously when i was using the Prodikeys computer lovelovelove musical keyboard, i used it with Cakewalk software in my old PC. I was able to choose the sound of the instruments from the Cakewalk software and using the Prodikeys keyboard, I was then able to record an instrument sound track by track, layer by layer, to create my music/songs. The songs created were then saved in midi format. Actually that one is also via trial and error as I only have "keyboard playing" background and not "music creation/recording" experience.

I thought that i might try something better than Prodikeys, so I bought the M-Audio Oxygen 49 midi controller about a week ago. As i do not have the Cakewalk software in my laptop, I tried downloading a few trial version music recording softwares such as Protools demo 7.4, Project 5, and Sonar Trial, to try out my Oxygen 49, but they can't seem to work with the keyboard. I can't produce any sound from the Oxygen 49.

Will u all be able to advise me on how to use the Oxygen 49?
Or maybe recommend some softwares that can make my Oxygen 49 produce sound?

(you can email me at syancsi@yahoo.com too if u want)

Thanx...

Whats needed to make sound, is to route the midi message out from the midi controller to daw, add a vsti inside daw, set the input to receive midi message(thru pressing a key, turning knobs on the oxygen 49) from the midi controller and lastly, the sound to be routed out via your audio interface or onboard laptop speaker.

Hi PatheinRaindropMoe..

thanx for ur reply.

I kinda get what you are trying to say, although I'm not quite sure how to execute it.

Would the softwares already have the DAW?
And now I need to find/download a vsti?

Sorry, but i hope you can be patient with me as I'm really not sure how to set it up (previously, the Prodikeys keyboard seems to be a plug-and-play hardware and I did not go thru this process of DAW and vsti).

Or is there any software that you can reommend that is very simple to use and go thru this process?

Thanx..

daw is software enviroment where you do all the recording and arrangement(Digital Audio Workstation is the full name for daw). The couple of programs that you have mentioned are those.

Not too familiar with the oxgen 49, but usually for this kinda product or midi controller in general, it will come bundle with le/lite edition daw softwares which you can use. Is there any cds or download code that come with the controller?

vsti is software instrument. It comes in 3rd party form or as part of the package for certain daw. Its an instrument in software format that are controlled by midi controller. It accept midi mesages and play off the corresponding sound that we hear or changes parameter values.

theres always a learning curve to midi controllers, setting up the input and output within daws(different program has different user interface and commands to do it, but the basic idea of routing input to output to input and output etc, will never change), reading the menu/online forums and sitting down to tinker with it is prolly the only way to learn.

The flow can be simplified to

1) midi controller send out midi messages(when we touch the keys, knobs, faders etc),
2) vsti within daw received this messages,
3) with the midi messages received, vsti will react accrodingly in the form of sound, parameter values changing etc.
4) the reaction will then be received by us in audio form through soundcard speaker/audio interface audio out or lighting indicators on our midi controller etc
