need help on pedal

Someone should make a sticky for this question... it appears so often.

tight: makes it harder to press down but also makes it come up fast

loose: easier to press down, pedal doesn't come up fast.

meaning, if it is tight, and your foot is strong, you can execute fast patterns just by the force of the foot going down. if it is loose, it'll be easy to step down but you'll require extra effort in lifting up your foot to make the footboard stay close to your feet.

Moral of the story? do what's best for you. experiment. for me, I just stick with medium.

i think we shud jux get ahpek or some of those pro drummers around to make sticky threads

topics like :

pedals
kit recommendations
muffling

just a suggestion :D

got a pedal question to ask also.

how do you guys plays beats with open and close hithats eights notes alternating, lets say on a 8 beat. straight.

As in how the left legs plays it, like whole leg up and down like playing the bass? Or the hell of the foot stays down and just moves the front of the leg?

move only the front of the leg. think of it as when you are playing the hi hat, your hi hat is moving up slowly at the same time, so it has that clean cresendo effect. if you just lift up, like how i did like that, the sound might come out more unrefined... yup

oh ok. i tried doing that, but after some time, like 8 bars my shin really strain XD

haha it won't strain 3 days later!:D then you can play for many many hours after that:D keep working!:D

seriously it's better than lifting your leg up all the time. tiring...

hmm ok, just a thought, i seen a lot of drummers in videos, they actaully lift their whole leg XD i tried both methods and find the lifting the whole leg for me creates a more consistent tempo XD but the sound when the sticks hit the hithat to produce the alternating open closes notes are not as precise XD

oh er... if like you want to play a chick on the hat itself i personally play with my whole foot...

if i would play like any syncopations on the hat, would play flat heeled on the pedal... hahaha

i play with it slightly tight as my heel is usually down. im soo used to it that i can't play on a loose pedal haha.
