what should i start on to learn the acoustic guitar? basic Chords? or by learning songs straight? Please help! Thanks :p

learn the songs you wanna play, and through the songs you learn to play, you'll learn the chords as well

After learning the basic chords through the songs, then learn the instrument.

Learn some very basic keys like C and G keys, from there on you will find many other interesting thing to learn. Just remember, cultivate the correct habits, it not it will be a bother when you play next time.

chords...simply chords...theres more to chords than open chords lol.....
take your time...dont rush...and play it everyday bout 30 mins??

Start with chords of your favourite song. I used to learn simple chords from songs that i didnt like but i kinda regretted it because its kinda boring to keep practicing on a song that u dont like. So yeah start from songs u like, that way it will be much more encouraging and less boring ;D

i remember when i start to play guitar it was Em G C D and the song is zombies by cranberries. These are the simplest chords and an easy song to practice. Over time surely you know more tabs and chords.

Gotta agree with you... Learn chords through songs.
I learn Hotel california as my first song and really appreciated for that.
Reason: Thru that song, i learnt the hardest chord for a beginners to go thru with... the dreaded F chord type shape...

Just my two cents of thought.

Same here. I now able to play some harder songs after a few years of practising.

Start playing some songs today

The primary goal should be to build confidence by getting yourself to actually do some guitar playing as soon as possible. Learning the wrong things in the beginning such as: music theory, finger exercises, how to read music notation, etc...is simply not the right time to introduce those topics at this point.

I have a blog to get you started actually complete with videos. Some songs to get you started with are "I'm Yours", "Chasing Cars", "Truly Madly Deeply"...www.rockandpopsongs.blogspot.com

Sign up for the free tips at my blog too! Valuable information which I didn't publish anywhere else.

Open major/minor chords , minor pentatonic scale and how they relate to the chords then read up on some music theory (triads), it really helps.

Start with some simple songs.

If the interest is still there, the rest should follow... (at least for me lol)
