Need Help : First Electric Guitar!

Hi guys,


I'm new but I'm interested in playing an electric guitar. My friend told me to get an accoustic guitar first since I don't know how to read chords and stuff but I really want to play electric ones because of The Strokes.

Anyway, recently a friend of mine is selling away his SX brand guitar with a bag and amplifier for $200. It is 80% new and has a small scratch at the bottom. I'm not sure of the model no. as he tells me that the model doesn't matter since they are all of the same make and the model is just how they are being shaped. Should I get it? My budget is not very high probably around 300. If not what guitar should I go? I'm new so please go easy on me thanks!
 
ditto- $200 is a bit much for a used, chipped, guitar. if you are disciplined enough to add $50 to that, you'd get a fresh Timbre guitar package (@ Std Value):

i have a CortX2 and a 15W smarvo amp. 300 in total.. lol.. just a suggestion.

there's some guy selling brand new cort guitars as low as 180 in the buy/sell.. do check it out.
 
why dont you go to Davisguitar in peninsula plaza (next to funan). They have some nice starter packages around $250-350 there (with guitar, amp, pick, strap and some other stuffs I think). Plus you can get advice from the staffs. I don't have the exact address of the store so why don't you try googling it :)
 
Yea, your friend is really charging you wayyy to much, the buy-sell section is a good place to look for a guitar. If you're lucky you'll find a good seller who will give you proper advice. If you want to go first hand, get someone else down who knows a thing or two about guitar down to davis, I'd go but I've got my A levels till the 18th... So go ahead and look around, find a good deal, it'll inspire you to play more.
 
lol. call mr sub down for a guided tour on guitar buying. u'll understand why after reading his reviews on guitars

I'll probably consider the Timbre guitar package by subversion. you seems to know alot haha.

a classical dug out somewhere in my house. first electric guitar was an ibanez pgm3. pretty expensive for a first guitar. haha

listen to subversion! he is REALLY REALLY knowledgeable
 
i thought the SX package at davis is at $200? so yea wont it be better buying it first handed unless davis changed its prices

haha rotten meaning literally? :P

try the timbre at standardvalue, pretty value for money, read quite a lot of good reviews on it. and mike is definitely a very nice guy who can perhaps give you good advice if you ask him haha.

my first guitar was a warlock bronze series by bc rich, borrowed an amp from my friend until i got my own amp.
