Hi there. I just started out drumming this year. I only had a few lessons from my friends who drum and other than that, i learn from online videos. I am on a budget as my parents is not willing to pay for my drum lessons. So do your recommend me to continue doing self-taught or do you have any cheap lessons to intro to me? I really like drumming a lot. So far, i was only able to practice on my table and pillow. Only on a few occasion, i was able to play the real kit. My friends say that i learn very quick. Currently now, i am still practicing my single and double strokes. Hoping that soft people here, would be able to give me some tips and advice. I also plan to get a 2nd hand acoustic kit. What do your recommend and what is lowest price i can get?Thank you.

Welcome to the drum world.

You can go to bugis bras basah building and take a look at ranking sports. Look for carlos set, the most budget drumset for beginner. Or go to the buy sell section of this forum and look for one within your budget.

Or i suggest you wait till you finish your secondary school, do some part time while you study. Got money for at least a standard kit liao. Pearl is quite affordable

Hmm i had been to bras basah. How do you know i was a secondary school kid? Haha! Yea i saw the carlos and gretch. I am lookin around for a kit with throne, cymbals and stands. My wish was to own a Pearl Forum.. And when i become pro, i hope to own OCD or Pearl Master series.. Thanks for the advice :)

Thanks for the advice! My friend lend my his beginner drum book. He has taught me how to read notes. Previously i was playing the piano, so yea it kinda a bit easier for me.. I dont understand about the sticks, 5A, B's etc... Could you explain to them to me? And yea i am practicing on rudiments as well. For accent and ghost notes.

Hi sorry for hijacking this post lol. Im kind of in the same situation as the thread starter, just a lil bit of difference.

The difference is i dont have space at home for the drum set.

So i was thinking whether there were other alternatives for practise such as cheaper drums only studios or just somewhere for self practise.

Also, if im taking lessons, i'll need a place to practise what i learnt?

So yeah i need a little help here.

Hi there.. hmm perhaps u could get a practice pad or someting to practice on?

Hi Magnimas and thanks for the advice ! However, i think it would be impractical to survive on just practising with the pad in the long run ? ( already am using one ) . Are there any means of practising on a actual acoustic set elsewhere? ( eg. cheap rental? )

Hi exjordanx its nice to know that you're picking up drums right now. Just wanna side track abit and introduce to you our monthly drum affair called the DXS.

At the DXS we drummers get together, share our drumming ideas, talk about drum gear and basically everything about drum under the sun! I hope you can join us on the Xchange to broaden your knowledge about drumming.

In fact we are schedule to organise one this coming Sunday, details to refer:

Do drop by and introduce yourself, hope to see you!
